Thanks!
Here ya go. They've toned down the BRIGHT WHITE interface quite a bit. Note the Track Inspector on the right (circled). You can also have mini-versions in each of your windows (also circled).

Cheers.

That can be done for the Meter Bridge, but not for the meters in the Mix Window.
True for 6.0, but not for 6.01 — after poking around with 6.01 for a little while, I found that the meter color items in the Default_Styles.xml file do affect the meters in the Mixing Board now. Time to revisit those GUI mods ...

Yea, I found this out not long after posting. I would really like to learn how to access these image files and how we can customize things like the fader knob which are apparently also XML. I liked the old knob much better. How do you open an xml file? I guess they will eventually take everything out of images except the keyhole screens. Oh well....

Xml files can be opened and edited in any raw text editor. For example, Textedit or Dreamweaver

Oh.... I have dreamweaver. I'll play with that. Thanks!

Added: The XML files are spec files. Wonder where the actual fader buttons are. I don't get it. :?:

The 6.01 experience so far:

All my MOTU VI's - Ethno, MSI, MachFive 2, MX4 are working. The graphic glitch is no big deal - for me.

Native Instrument VI's Absynth 4, Reaktor 5 and Kontakt 3 are generally stable but every time I record enable a track other than a K3 track after working in K3 - K3's sample load window pops up and rapidly peels through some task as though it's either loading or unloading... don't know that that's about - maybe the real-time plug in settings - but it forces a brief pause in the work flow before I can continue.

AltiVerb 6, all my PSP plugs, Roger Nichols FINIS, Augustus Loop and a handful of free plugs are fine.

I use a Novation ReMOTE SL 37 controller and AutoMap Universal 2.1. So far so good.

ALL my VI's and plugs are the most recent versions and I fix and maintain Macs as part of my living so both my MB Pro's HD and my two RocStor external FW drives are always in good shape. I regularly us Disk Warrior 4.1 on them to check for directory corruption. BUT I am experiencing more random hangs or crashes than in either 6.0 or DP 5.1.4. Very nervous making and these can be caused it seems by almost anything. Not waiting long enough after saving before hitting play, moving a window, loading a new MachFive bank, etc. Whereas I used to find clear evidence in the Apple crash report of which Thread took DP down - the results are less clear now. No specific thread - usually a Kernel Panic, address access error or a hung process.

Conclusion: Obviously, with the explosion over the past, let's say... six years - of DAW's, virtual instruments, hardware interfaces and plug-ins it's got to be tough, even with supposed "Industry" or "software development standards" to make every last thing work in every possible configuration. That said - given the amount of time and money most of us have invested in these tools - it's a crying shame when the latest "Advance" stops us in our tracks. (pun intended) "Digital Performer doesn't force you to rethink the way you want to make music." is their claim. Well if the whole damn thing comes crashing down all the time - it sure as hell does. While I haven't done it, and those of you who have are to be commended for your attempts, we shouldn't have to be swapping out previous MAS bundles to get this thing to work as advertised.

I've been a DP user since the early 'MIDI only' days back in the late 80's. And, as each successive NEW version of DP has come out I've been a fearless and early adopter, and, normally it's been a relatively painless experience, and, DP has been an invaluable piece of software for me. I'll hang in there and I'm sure that they'll get it right some day BUT, right now, it's got the same smell as Apple's recent roll out of the Mobile Me service.

Setting K3 to Always Run in realtime might help with this.

Looks much better to me judging from the pic alone. Seems less of an eye-strain too and much more like the general DP5 shade in terms of brightness at least.

I meant to comment on the new Track Inspector feature yesterday, but was in a rush to get ready for a gig.

This seemingly "minor" feature actually can have a HUGE impact on workflow and keeping one's train of thought while task-switching. By giving you access to some functionality from the other views/windows, no matter which view/window is "in front", you can make simple setting changes while focusing primarily on a different task, or use it as a much more efficient task-switcher (one-step vs. the usual three-steps to switch to a sidebar or tab and bring up the desired view/window).

It's one of those features that, even after just two days of using, I don't know how I ever did without :-).

dpdan wrote:thanks Shooshie and MIDI life,

at least I know it's not just me. It's so aggravating, because we need to hear the
difference immediately in the editing of the sustain pedal in order to be positive
that it's exactly what we want.

I just can't believe that DP "known originally" as a MIDI sequencer has broken
features that makes me go back to 5.13. Oh well. :(

I really do like the changes they made to the gui, I too wish the meters were the
same green color as before. A much better contrast, but they need to loose the black
background if they go back to green,.. I suspect they won't.

These broken MIDI editing features makes DP6 a waste of 200 bucks for me because
I can't make music with it. I have been emailing Dave Roberts these screencast things
so he can pass it on to the tech engineers.

Dave is a FIRST CLASS guy, and I am so honored to have access to him.

Thanks guys!
Dan
I´ve posted a reply earlier in this thread regarding this issue, but obviously you didn´t read it.

A workaround for the sustain-bug is to switch display to Bars-mode (in the GE), then it´s possible to draw a cc64 zero-value
