Leaving aside some of the functional issues to be resolved (plug-in compatibility, bugs), which statement below best describes your opinion of the new graphic look introduced with DP6?

D) I don't really care... they both (DP5 & DP6) are okay to me.

E) I don't like it. I'd be glad to have a redesign, but this isn't close to what I'd like.

F) I don't like it. DP5's graphic look was fine and MOTU should have left it alone.

Man, DP6 is so quirky.

I'm attracted to quirky people, but that's not a good quality for a production app.

The mixing board GUI acts funny. I often automate plugs' bypass toggle button to enable/disable the plug during certain parts of the sequence. When I play the sequence, the board is often showing the wrong state of the plug, active when it should be inactive or vice versa. But I know that the plug's in the correct state cuz I hear it, but it's annoying to look at.

well, I've just spent about 6 hours straight mixing now that my studio is fully set, and DP6 GUI really wasn't buggy at all, DP6 did crash while trying to open a OMF session, but that is other thread

by the way, what does "quirky" mean???

Well, I arranged a song in DP6 - and for now these are a couple comments and questions -

• I can live with the GUI, but my eyes are fatigued a lot quicker than with DP 5
• the mixing board meters are very hard to see clearly (with the dark blue and light blue) and the fader area seems very congested. The mute/record/solo buttons could also stand out more (the colors could be part of the whole button)
• Proverb and Leveller sound great.
• track selection is a bit quirky -

A question: in DP5 the tracks overview nudge was always one measure, and now it follows what is set on nudge - is there another way to have the track overview nudge independent from the SE or SE nudge?

Everything else seems to work ok - a bit of getting used to the mini menus being on the right.
.
Finally a couple of suggestions - bring back the collapse button for the SE/GE in consolidated window - and the play/recordenable buttons in the MIDI editor (no fun always having to go to the tracks overview to do this). Also having the vertical/horizontal resize buttons in the SE up in the top left was really nice in Dp5 (since this is the main editing window).

I'm not overwhelmed with the GUI design - personally I think MOTU could kept DP 5's workflow/minimenus etc, and redesigned the GUI look. I do love the track comping, Proverb. Leveller, Cd burning, and resizing the tracks overview.

That all said though (all my complaining on this board has mostly been about Logic... sorry MOTU this time), it's miles ahead of other DAWs and I will always use DP :)

That looks good. That greyishness thing really works.
Success is just one more plugin away! And happiness is as close as your next upgrade.

Okay, I think I'm moving more in the right direction now...

http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.c ... D=34516945

Maybe someone can help me get rid of the partially opaque little boxes around the fader knobs, I can't seem to figure it out. I've been using the free "Seahorse" graphic editor to do all this.

If I, not being any kind of a graphic designer, can come up with a way to make the interface more tolerable, how hard could it have been for a "pro"???????

Nice work Amplidood; keep it up man.

I tried to find the app you mentioned, but this was as close as I could get:

http://seahorse.darwinports.com/

There was a kiddies' game, a screensaver, 'photo site or something and a security system (or something!) too, but I couldn't find a graphic app. Just curious as I'll never be able to afford a "proper" editor/painter/drawer or whatever at the rate I'm going.

Wow. Time for a new set of spectacles for the Amplidood.....

The app is called "SeaSHORE"

http://seashore.sourceforge.net/

It's based on a bigger freeware app called GIMP that requires X11 to run. I hate running stuff in X11, so i don't unless absolutely necessary.

Okay, until I learn more about bevel shading and how to do 3d elements right, I'm going to leave it like this for a while. My eyes have such an easier time figuring out what's going on in this current setup. Anyone interested in modding DP this way can message me and I'll upload the modded files to ya. Or email at aselby@comcast.net

I still can't figure out how to get rid of the semi-opaque boxes around the fader knobs. :(
