I'm talking about Auto tune, DP's pitch correction is fine.
In file based mode you can't tweak any knobs in Auto tune while previewing. (which you CAN with other plugs.)
And then when you Apply it, DP6 crashes.
The Real Time plug in of AT in the inserts seem to be OK. (I never use them there, BTW)

Is there anyway MOTU could change the color background of the tracks section and have more color options in the colors in general??... it is so bright and stark...
Thanks

I want to have the song start time, become beat 1 measure 1.
There is nothing in the new maual 6.0 that has anything about his.
I have tried chunk time start and the seq. But it will not change to beat 1 measure 1, there has to be a logical and easy way.

Hey Crescentmoon-- I think there are many who would like some integrated method that would allow control of the colors, but some users have been quite resourceful:

Hey mrbil-- what's your song start time currently? If someone else doesn't have an answer for you today, I should have something for you by late tomorrow.

Note: Polls close 3.5 hours from now! (I'll need to finish documenting and organizing questions, and that may take a while).
Thanks to everyone for their input!

Hi Frodo,
First off, thanks for doing this. Your generosity is always inspiring.
I would like to know how far off Eucon support is. It was promised for V6, but MOTU must have hits some bumps on the road.

Gotcha, blue. My pleasure!

This alone would answer a HOST of questions that would not otherwise need to be asked. It also speaks to the bigger issue of customer relations where info in general on known bugs and bug fixes remain a longstanding user request. One would think that publishing bug fixes would also serve to ease the traffic on their tech links, but one can only conclude that MOTU has its own reasons for not making such info known.
Yes, it's a difficult subject to bring up in a constructive way. And, I'm afraid I might have another one

What is MOTU's view of right-click functionality in DP? Is it now where it should be, or are there plans to expand it?
Thanks for your dedication.

Oooh. Good one.

Yes-- someone else mentioned right-clicking this on another thread. That would be a great solution for doing the "create continuous data song and dance" without having to hunt through the menus... among other features. Add any number of modifiers to that right click and suddenly you've about doubled your key command possibilities!!

The last time they did that was DP2.7. I know, I was there....

Thanks for the ultra-kind and un-earned sentiments, Ty-- but there's really nothing stellar going on here. We spend so much time on this forum together tearing out what's left of our hair sorting through the why's and WTF's that getting an audience on the occasion of this new release for the sake of intermediate or advanced old timers has turned into a "must".
Such public events for DP are so infelicitously rare in the States (for any American software product of its kind!) that the nature of the occasion itself is worth reporting (fwiw). Whatever questions get answered (willingly or by force!!) will be a bonus. Regardless, an assessment of the event will be quite telling of MOTU's public focus where even their website's own RSS feeds are updated in intervals of weeks or months.
Well I’m not sure about un-earned – your post count is nearly 10,000!
This inapproachability of software companies seems to be universal, well at least in the DAW world and I will never really understand it. As far as I can see, quite a few of the DP6 issues could easily have been circumvented by asking some of the long time members of this board. The GUI issue, for example, could have been avoided (or at least helped). Ho hum.
Yes I agree. It's as if they didn't show it to anybody before they released it. Time for a new beta team! Or maybe there isn't a beta team. It's hard to tell.

known issues would have been very useful to me..
for instance I would have been fully informed of the quicktime playback offset - instead of a casual remark by a tech support guy over the phone in the middle of another issue - yes crash on save - which I have 100% solved - but for the life I don't see how switching on the Quickview filter to hide volume automation inicates a problem with MY system? ( or that of any of the 3 imacs I tried?)
a web page with known issues and workarounds might have meant I would have reached the point of stability faster... ( and they OBVIOUSLY already have it eh - jeez it might even help them cut costs..
right clicking ? I have been harping about that for years! essential development.. It's funny how motu got accused of being pc-ific with It's dogged use of one click mouse - like HELLO MOTU! mind you with thhe dodgy design they have on some windows I CAN see the PC reference.
I do think you may have some luck tho Frodo - because they have made one improvement in 6 I was dying for - soundbite gain displayed in the mini info bar - HURRAY!
Actually my system has crashed only once this week - a very busy one too -
please ask them to implement a background autosave - so i can RELAX insted of saving like every few mins - I still do save as and interate file number - after all it will occassional COS ond a irrecoverable corrupt file is EXPENSIVE...
It'd be great if we could recall a specific view - ie a key stroke to view all the tracks in a folder - or a particalr track height - view history isn't really attractive for me - it's ok for jumpiung back - but it's a bit dumb sometimes after a page scroll etc... basiclly better zoom keys.
I wonder if 6 will cut down the number of file corruptions - -48 and 193 errors etc... DP 5.13 and previous version have to win a prize for the flakiest file format out there - do a search - this issue has been around for YEARS!!!!!!
You are obvious busy with all this reading - I wonder how much you will get to cover...
Grimepoch had a great list of suggestions on working with film- I hope MOTU have read that,,
I will say that now I know the limitations of DP I can work with in those boundaries at this price - how ever in my old age I do deserve more luxury - I have bought one more copy of DP to get my free upgrade - after all DP has been paying my rent for me ....
I hope it works - if I continue getting issues - I will buy Nuendo... at least my MOTU hardware and possible Euphonix will work with those..

Okay-- here are the questions in a big sack (or nutshell, whichever you prefer...)
The Nation wrote:
1. volume burst issue solved?
2. any plans to update to existing plugs
3. control implementation for their VI's and plugins, ie create continuous data in SE instead of scattered menus
4. v-rack able to recieve change parameter data-- you cannot send change data to the v-rack
5. some MIDI VI tracks (not outboard MIDI tracks) played and rendered on BTD incorrectly
6. TAB button unassignable in key commands?
7. How much of DP6 is now Cocoa? What parts?
8. static faders selected lost when selecting the bar at the top
9. track side bar disappears when another app is running
10. Why isn't Buffy in the DP6 manual?
11. Any plans for user controllable GUI color and prefs?
12. MAS/AU wrapper still reporting problems. fix?
13. How to best submit bug reports-- tech links often go unacknowledged
14. Plugins and VIs GUI malfunctioning-- ie: UAD-1, Focusrite, etc.
15. Is DP Spaces-aware?
16. make editable soundbite volume up where soundbite start and end times are displayed in the sequence editor
17. cosine fader algorithm
18. multi-layered markers
19. realtime fades
20. solo, pan, and volume buttons in each track of SE (not automation)
21. QT to run independently of tempo maps
22. the ability to use a diversity of markers (hit points, streamers, etc.) for separate takes
23. QS updates
24. Add solo button in the plugins window next to bypass
25. white papers, more frequent RSS updates with software releases and announcements, reports of official bugs, bug fixes, better organized tech data base
26. Mixer pan option for fade and blend
27. Eucon, Novation, surface controller support status
28. Right-click functionality-- contextual menus-- when?
29. How does DP6 reduce file corruptions?
Clearly, many of these are feature requests which will generate the answers "not today", "later", "check for updates", etc.
My purpose is to phrase these concerns into questions that pertain specifically to DP6 in its present form.. or its 6.1 form. Here are the types of questions I'd ask...
1. How to burn a CD from DP's TO successfully
2. What are the specific AU improvements, especially for plugins with wiggly knobs
3. Installation advice where DP5 is in residence
4. OMF, AAF, XML project import and export
5. What is meant by 100% sample accurate AU support and what that means for DP5.13 (which is only 87% sample accurate?)
6. Whether the universal track selector is truly user-obedient when moving from one editor to another
7. When users might expect a 6.1 update
8. Timetable for true 64-bit memory addressing.
So, there it is. Keep in mind that making an effort is not the same as making a promise.
I promise I will make an effort.
Results will be posted at some point on Saturday, PDT USA.
