I'm confused about the "what can replace Enigma, Doppler, etc." type discussion. I've been using Waves Gold Native for many years. The processors are as good as anything out there (but not better; see Sonalksis), but the effects...pretty mediocre in comparison to indie offerings. PSP's delays blow Waves out of the water for both sound quality and flexibility, especially MD608. Fabfilter, Soundtoys, AudioDamage and maybe PSP Nitro have smoother and more interesting and usable characteristics than their equivalent Waves effects and are much cheaper. Throw in a plug or two from Camel Audio to the above, and you've got a massive arsenal of sound mangling at your disposal without ever opening up waves. I do like Waves' processors - C4, L1, RenComp, etc. - but for effects, I don't see why anyone'd use Waves unless it's just a cost and already-own-Waves thing.

agreed 100%. Waves effects are pretty basic and not that special. There are so many more interesting plugins for filters, delays, etc. that I wouldn't even know where to start. Actually the ones you named are a great start. First just go buy everything FabFilter makes.

I've yet to see anything that replaces the C4 and the Linear Phase Multi-Band (C-5). Also, I think the L1, L2, and L3 are unbeatable, but the L3 Multi-Maximizer is simply a new paradigm. Most people don't even know it exists, and of those who do, maybe 1 in 1000 know how it works or what makes it special. Fantastic plugin.

So, as much as I dislike the company, these plugins ensure that I'll be with them for some time to come.

The C4 is in daily use here as well. I also have the L316, but use the L2 most of the time anyway. The API 2500 is a must have for me, as well as the Neve EQs. Fact is, they make a lot of stuff that I must have.

Do you know how it works? It looks interesting. Is it processing each band independently and limiting them as separate bands? Or does it add them together and prioritize them as they are fed to a single limiter? (the latter is more-or-less the way the L3 works) Is it Phase Accurate? Just curious as to how it compares with the L3. I know it has one very nice feature: it's not made by Waves!

PCM, if you like the C4, and I know you do, then you really should try the Linear Phase Multi-Band processor. It should be called the C5. It's the C4 with an extra band, plus it's got extra capabilities, like auto-leveling and linear phase accuracy. You probably know about it, but I was just wondering why you'd be using the C4 and not the C5.

The only workaround is to launch DP on the first machine and then insert the dongle in the second and launch DP.. You can both work in DP simultaneously. If you're working in the same building and one or the other needs a restart .. no problem.. If not.. too bad for the guy without the dongle.

Replacement for Waves Rvox? This seems to be an auto-release type of comp, which is different from most compressor emulations. It's rather transparent, bringing vocals up in the mix without drastically changing their tonality.
