64-bit addressing?
Does anyone know if DP 6 will be 64-bit compatible?
For a host this woud be very important issue.
Sorry if this is already answered, I did search.... a bit.

I imagine, or at least hope, it would be streamlined in the process. In that sense, efficiency just means less baggage held over from old days, and maybe even more stability. Not to mention the fact that it would be easier to build upon. It's less about power and more about staying lean and mean.Shooshie wrote:So, just how much more efficient does DP really NEED to be? Run it on the fastest Macs, and a lot of those problems vanish.
But, when it comes to power, I can't say there is ever enough. Developers are finding more and more ways to tax our systems. Even with a new Mac you can hit the wall faster than you'd like. I wouldn't want to think my sequencer was hogging any more resources than necessary. Know what I mean?
Oh believe me when I say that I would welcome a faster DP with open arms. I'm only saying that if the new DP runs just like the old DP, speedwise, I won't be upset and throw a fit or anything like that. That's moved to a lower priority now. Of course, if I have to do a huge orchestra of Garritan Solo Stradivari violins, then I'll be barking for more speed! But with VI pre-rendering, it just may feel faster, anyway.

Not wanting to contradict anyone or piss on any fires here ... but I doubt if it will be able to read Altiverb IRs ... I'd hate someone get their hopes up and then be let down on this!frankymax wrote:....... The convolution reverb will read ANY impulse response (including Altiverb, from what Dave told me) as well as any audio file impulse. And it uses much less CPU!!!
Some of their early IR releases (for the first coupe of versions of Altiverb) might be readable - if you can get hold of them - but these days they are a special format and only accessable to registered users, partly to protect their investment and partly as the IR's have unique properties only altiverb can read. Sorry!

Mmm Good point and the 64 bit question is indeed the $64,000 question.Spikey Horse wrote:Not wanting to contradict anyone or piss on any fires here ... but I doubt if it will be able to read Altiverb IRs ... well I'm just reporting what Magic Dave told me at the show when I asked him personally about that. Maybe if he gets time he can clarify if I got it wrong.

I agree with Spikey.
I've only played with the v4.x demo some years back, but I did notice that Audioease said somewhere in their blurb that future incarnations of Altiverb would proprietarise (if there's such a word) any IRs run in the plug.
That was around v4, so I'd say they've done it by now.
Of course, if DP does indeed read said files, I'll be PMming Shooshie yesterday and offering him money.
MagicDave, do you have the goods on this?

NOW that is a GREAT idea.newrigel wrote:Hmmm... great timing MOTU!
Tax return = DP6!
I was wondering when this was going to happen...
Next I'd like to see a MOTU FW or PCIe DSP box that runs plugs and has multiple IO's for the MOTU studio!!
I'd be sending that one to Motu

If the CD burning feature really works I can sell TWO G4's I have. I have them specifically to run Waveburner in OS9 (one G4 is a spare since this is a mission critical part of my work with super-tight deadlines). Waveburner is the only app that does what I need and after buying Logic (mostly to try Waveburner) it's still broken in OSX for my specific purposes. This is the best news in years for me. Also the interleaved files saves another step in my workflow. I am buzzed.
The resizable TO is wonderful news too, and the exploding takes/comping feature which I know will help tons of folks here in everyday recording tasks. Lots of meat and potatoes features here rather than a bunch of VI's I will rarely use. I'm extremely jazzed and will actually come out way ahead $$-wise if a I can sell 2 G4's in the bargain!!!
Thanks very much for the posts you guys!
Cheers
Phil

ProVerb can load any audio file as an impulse response. It does not load Altiverb IRs because Altiverb IRs are encrypted files.frankymax wrote:The convolution reverb will read ANY impulse response (including Altiverb, from what Dave told me) as well as any audio file impulse. sorry- my bad- I thought Dave said it would read Altiverb's IR's, but I guess he meant the audio files. Well, at least there's a butt-load of audio IR's available for free on the web.ProVerb can load any audio file as an impulse response. I wonder if DP 6 will be able to address all 8 processors on an 8-Core; also will it be able to address more than 4 gig of RAM?
Inquiring minds want to know!

Hey, at least all those AIFF and WAVE impulses won't need converting.frankymax wrote:sorry- my bad- I thought Dave said it would read Altiverb's IR's, but I guess he meant the audio files. Well, at least there's a butt-load of audio IR's available for free on the web.
Dang. I spent ages 3 or 4 years ago converting all the free files I could find on the 'net to SD2s in anticipation of getting Altiverb one day.
Now it turns out I needn't have. Doh!

Yeah! I'm going bananas asking this question over and over...greg328 wrote:I wonder if DP 6 will be able to address all 8 processors on an 8-Core; also will it be able to address more than 4 gig of RAM?
