My fave is a Washburn Hawk - which my dad bought me when I was 13. Still the fave. Actually, the Washburn wing series produced about 1979-1982 is truly one of the finest sets of instruments made IMO. If I spot any more and am in a guitar buying mood, I'll snag one. Why do I love it? Super Jumbo frets, slim neck that feels exactly right, fairly rigid axe with neck through body construction and brass bridge and nut produces truly magical sustain. The pickups/tone controls provide a great range of character as well.

Guitar 2 is a throwaway '80s era Kramer strat with a Floyd Rose which I drag out when I need either 1) more strat-like tone or 2) whammy bar mojo.

I covet more vintage washburn wing series guitars - largely for the neck feel and tone.

Amps - I believe that the designers at Mesa have a magical relationship with tube technology. I have a Mark III Boogie combo with 1x12 EVM Speaker that I love and have recently acquired a VOX ToneLabLE for effects and direct recording.

Inspirational guitarists off the top of my head:
Frampton
Elliot Easton
Eddie Van Halen
BB King
Knopfler
Keith Richards

Basically - anybody who is particularly good at what I call 'tasty phrasing'.

Ops guys this is about guitars and MLC put in a piano so we use guitar straps to romp around the stage but I have never seen a piano strap.
I will stop now before I dig myself in to deep.

Frodo I am with you on the B3,with a leslie or 2. At 375 lb.s it is almost portable.

A bit of trivia.

Before Hammond was allowed to call their instruments organs they had to have a competition with a pipe organ to prove that theirs sounded like an organ.
Prior to that they were not the Hammond Organ co. but called the Hammond watch works co. Hammond Watch Works Co. made an organ before the B••™s called an A. An old band mate of mine has one with the tone generator he loved that thing. He used his B3 for shows, as the A is a collector••™s organ.

Just wanted to chime in again on behalf of the guitar as an instrument...

Just watched a broadcast on HD cable of a big concert in honor of a big Fender anniversary. It was cool-- didn't get to see the whole thing, but loved the sound of the instrument in different hands-- big names, too...

But what came on immediately afterwards (and is still on) is a concert with Joe Satriani taped in Anaheim, California-- "Super Collosal" tour...

Everyone has their favorites for different reasons. Joe's balance of rock and funk, traditional and edgy styles, virtuosity and simplicity are incredibly commendable.

I love his playing, but what I think I enjoy the most is just seeing someone like him play with such ease with the instrument being a close extension of his creative imagination. When the player and instrument appear as one, that's when the magic happens, regardless of musical style.

In a nutshell, this guy played his butt off! :P

`
I've always admired him too, Fwoggy.
He's possibly the most melodic of the shredders out there.

His live performance ability likely has something to do with the fact that he was a session player before he got his big break (with the Stones?).

Indeed. He's so well rounded and yet he's woven together his own brand of traditional and innovative styles of playing. He's such a polished performer, too-- really knows his audience. His sense of *timing* is as keen as his sense of *time*. The way he bent the guitar to his will really blew me away.

I decided that instead of getting CDs that I would spend more time renting and/or buying DVDs instead. I can learn a lot more by watching someone play as I can by just listening.

And by the way-- I found a rare out of print DVD of The Beatles in Australia-- lots of interviews which culminated in the Melbourne concert in June, 1964. The mix was wonderfully bad-- meaning that I could often hear Lennon's specific parts better than George's, and that was a lifetime of guitar lessons right there.

Cheers M8 and welcome back-- we've missed you, good fellow! :P

Thank you, kind hobbit; you know this means a lot to me.

I'll do my best, but you'll forgive me if I'm not quite myself.
Don't know whether I'm coming or going, Arthur or Martha, this way or that... you get the idea. :D

Thank you, Hobby; your "sustaining" kindness is much appreciated.

I'll take that "good wishes and high regards" comment with me, if that's OK.
Should come in handy tomorrow. :D

Sleep tight.
