MOTU rules!!!! This update is absolutely amazing. No crashes, and the new features are unbelievable! Everyone should print out and read the PDF that comes with the update!

Well, I haven't been able to get 4.6 to crash yet, but I've mostly been messing with the V-Rack feature (unbelievably awesome!!) and not any heavy audio projects. We'll see.

One thing I did notice, which is great, but baffling news......GMedia's impOSCar now functions properly :) I always thought that the problem was GMedia's to fix? Dave Spiers even admitted that there could be a problem with the AU running in DP due to the way it was coded. Oh well, if it works it works.

The problem with the impOSCar was bad graphic behavior when tweaking a knob with the mouse. Ghost knobs would pop up on screen, rendering the synth useless. It appears this is no longer a problem in DP4.6

I haven't had time to catch up on the forum yet, but just logged in briefly to say "Thank You" to MOTU for giving us essentially a brand new MAJOR product release for free! I am absolutely blown away by all the new features in 4.6 (which I just learned about a few minutes ago -- I haven't even read other people's responses, but just quickly scanned for the appropriate topic to reply to). As far as I know, MOTU is the only company to consistently provide major new functionality for free in so-called "minor" point releases. I may not even need to buy Melodyne now (which was next on my list). Curious if they're licensing it or doing it their own way.

i've used autotune and melodyne.....and as far as i'm concerned this dp pitcher blows them away sonically.

I can confirm that impOSCar is finally working when the Performance Window is open! Since it's my main synth, this is a huge thing for me.

Thanks MOTU for this incredibly awesome update!!!

No crashes here. I am constantly blown away by MOTU and I want them to be around for a long time. I would have gladly paid for this upgrade. The pitch features AND the Virtual Racks are just amazing. MOTU, I've said it before and I'll say it again:

YOU ROCK!!!

Hi Kubi,

Yep, I'm running 10.4.1 so, yes, this could be specific to Tiger.

For those that mentioned Dashboard as a possible source of trouble, I'm not convinced that this (at least in my case) has anything to do with the spiking. For starters, my G5 is about as high-end as you can get (though it's short 1.5GB RAM and a 10K drive). But, that aside, I'm not running any Dashboard apps in the background. And, even if I were, OSX does have a process scheduler so, unless the CPU is completely starved, the OS can do a lot to ensure that real-time apps get their share of CPU...
Well, Dashboard was certainly the cause of problems here. When I disabled it all, the spikes stopped. When brought it back, the spikes came back. Of course, I have DP set for medium work priority. Maybe if I set it for high? But then that brings up other troubles. Hmmmm....

Well, for now, I'm happy to turn off the Dashboard when tracking and editing. I will sort of miss those widgets, though. That's ok, since I can always turn them back on when I need to.

hey shooshie

im not sure if this will help or not. i'm an apple technician and avid music producer and i have noticed an usually high number problems related to working to working with audio on the quicksilver's. lot's of different, belwildering little (and sometimes not so little) difficulties, particularly on that model. i realize that doesnt actually help you, short of convincing you to get a G5, but i thought i'd put it out there.

I'd like to also add my thanks to MOTU for this incredible update.

Interesting! I've learned to deal with a lot of little inconsistencies, but they mainly seem to affect internal audio and Soundsticks. I haven't noticed a problem in my MOTU audio chain. Do you know of any that affect the latter?

Glad to know that it's just a Quicksilver thing. Sort of. I always seem to pick the winners in that regard. I was a big fan of the 660 AV and 849 AV desktops, back in the day. They were loaded with such problems, but it was worth it for the features they offered. So, I lucked out again with the Quicksilver, eh?

It's odd, but the most problem-free Mac I ever owned was made by Motorola--the StarMax 5500! That was a long time ago, though.

Just out of curiosity, what is the most problem-free Mac you know of that is currently being sold? I want to do my homework before buying another.

Thanks very much MOTU! Thanks as always for giving us such terrific features for inexpensive upgrade prices or, in this case, for free! :)

DP is back to leading the pack. :)

I installed 4.6 this morning and so far so good. I loaded up a large orchestral project I recently finished and decided to try pitch automating a live element that was giving me problems before. In about 10 minutes I "corrected" the performance, something that took me ages in 4.5 (cutting up bites and transposing them individually).

If this version remains stable for me, I will be one excited mutha. The new features will make my life easier, not to mention more fun.

Cheers to MOTU for all the good work.

By the way, I'm running 4.6 on OS 10.3.9. I'm not ready to take the plunge into Tiger yet.

Any one noticed a problem with 4.6 and Reason? I have Reason 2.5 and in 4.6 it no longer appears in my audio bundles. Rechecked in 4.52 and everything still appeared there.

Nix my last post. After another restart I found it in the instrument tab of the audio bundles window. Don't know if I overlooked it before or things just needed a restart to clear the air. So far everything is looking good in the new version.

The pitch features are simply amazing. I'm reeling!!! Everything seemed very smooth... smoother than usual... and no crashes with two hours of pitch editing. I'm blown away.

By the way I'm on a dual 1.8 G5 and 10.3.9.
