So it seems like everyone is in agreement that the announced features after a 3 year wait deserves a full point upgrade to DP "9"?

Well, an 8.08 or 8.1 to fix some things would still be welcome but the new features are enough to make it 9.

Now to make it mine!

Nope. Maybe 8.5. I love DP8, but I am pretty underwhelmed with the features outlined in 9 so far. I'm not even sure I'm going to upgrade. VCA faders would have been worth it for me, but I don't even see that listed. I'm hoping there is a lot more than plugins and a synth, which I really don't need. I'm a little disappointed, but maybe they have more up their sleeve that hasn't been disclosed.

Definitely not. In fact, this update seems to be a good reason for me to stop using DP. I'm starting to feel like I spend more time struggling against the software than it helping me, and the hope I've had for many of these workflow issues to be fixed has waned to nothing.

I'm still going to wait until we have better official information on DP9 though. I've waited 7 years, I can wait another 2-3 months.

This threw me. I found you have to open the Information Windows in the Sidebars and set up what they display. Then they display the same thing when used in the Edit windows.

"MergaSynth" is a guitar synthesizer pedal, emulating some aspects of the old ARP Avatar
unit.

Yes, i've already had plenty of 1176 and guitar pedals for years in the form of UAD, GuitarRig etc., so pretty Zzzzzzz there. But remember this is just a preview. Any word on a release date for DP 9?

I understand your complaint about absolute grid, but, from my experience, a MAJOR factor in your feeling of struggling against the software comes from using DP6. That version never should've been released, as far as I'm concerned.

If you really don't want to upgrade yet, I'd even recommend returning to 5.13 rather than staying in 6. (I came from Studio Vision and Pro Tools, had a great transition to DP 5.13, then felt completely betrayed by DP 6, so I returned to 5.13 until DP 7 came out).

Yes, I still prefer a few things in Pro Tools, but I end up working in DP most of the time for its unique features like multiple mixes, consolidated windows with multiple views, v-racks, chunks, and latency-free monitoring through Cue Mix.

Guitar synth sounds like fun. (Guitar player here.). Also, the last time checked, guitar parts are recorded as audio, so I don't know what the snarky "new commitment" thing is about, or even where you got the idea that MOTU had even stated such a commitment.

As for waiting 7 years for MOTU to service your workflow demands: in all that time, you've never seen it tried or heard of another DAW that did what you wanted? I sure as hell wouldn't wait that long. I learned Logic because I was weary of memory limits and DP didn't go 64 bit fast enough to suit me (thank Bog I came back!). If you feel like you're struggling against DP, why use it?

They don't develop DP just for me or just for you, ya know. When I pointed this out on Facebook, one guy informed us that he wasn't being picky: he had exchanged actual e-mails with a real MOTU engineer, so it was only logical that his pet features should be addressed. Now.

I am very dismayed to learn that DP has no automatic grid snapping thingy. I can't believe I've created so many albums over these decades, NOT having this feature. And you know what the worst part is? I never even knew I was missing it!

I would just quantize, or some archaic step like that, and go on my merry way, thinking that DP had a full feature set..

It is clear that I will not be able to create any more records until MOTU fixes this oversight. MOTU must face!!

I mean, how can music exist without a grid?
