Yes, and thanks for this thread.

I am FINALLY bouncing to mp3s from DP and loving it.

And in regards to some comments on other threads about discovering new workflows, I'm starting to do realtime mixes in DP as well. I can do impromptu changes as I listen. Then I just bounce the mix tracks to mp3 and evaluate.

MIDI Life Crisis wrote:It unzips into two files, do we need both? Also, the link mentions it is for: "Mac OS X 10.5 PPC, PPC64, i386 and X86_64 architectures." Excuse my ignorance, but is a Mac Pro with an Intel processor included in that?
I don't see those questions ever got answered.

1) you only need to install libmp3lame.dylib. The other file is a UNIX executable and not needed.

2) Yes, intel Macs are included in the description.

+1 to James and OP for helping solve this issue. Just had to grab the libmp3lame.dylib and drop it into /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/MOTU Audio Export/ and all was well!

And, why any major DAW would need such freeware to be manually installed as opposed to the software being included with the daw is also a confusion to me? This is not hte 1st round of talk I have seen on LAME.
What is so unique about mp3s that pro tools, dp etc, have to work with it like it's some add on or 3rd party dependant program?
Is it only a matter of licensing? If it is, why is lame free then?
LAME is widely regarded as the best mp3 encoder out there. I assume there are licensing issues with the LAME providers that prohibit explicit bundling with products that are then sold for profit. I admit that this is a somewhat cumbersome arrangement and instructions could be way clearer. That said, once it's set up, it really is a fantastic combo of DP and BTD LAME.

It can't be bundled, period. The LAME Consortium's TOS makes this clear. What you can do is compile the code and make it available for download.

You should have three files in that directory:

Core Audio Export.bundle
LAME Audio Export.bundle
libmp3lame.dylib

Since mine is working I'm posting an archive of that file here that you can unarchive and drop into that directory and it should work.

Thanks for your help and file, James!
All is fine now.

hammerman wrote:Man, I wasted an hour trying to find this. For DP 8 you need a different form of LAME and in a different place. You need to get 3.98 or greater and in this form: "libmp3lame.dylib"

I got mine here: http://nuclearpixel.com/blog/view/2010- ... _osx_10.5/

Then you put it here: Library/Audio/Plug-ins/MOTU Audio Export

You can thank me later!
