My engineer is saying, that DP8 themes are harsh on eyes due to the heavy contrasts used, as oppoed to blending. Love your analogy Andy.
And VERYYYYYYYYYYY excited you have DP8>!!!!

My hat's off to the designer for all the detail attention.
As soon as I flipped back to DP7 with my themes, my eyes chilled back out. So get ready folks... I can't predict the timing right now, but the process is starting.

They are very harsh. Kinda miffed about the direction MOTU took its themes. The vast majority of them are bottom-tier eye candy, things that no one would ever use, but may be fun to look at when first flipping through the list. I've never particularly liked "theme" themes, where the designer says, "hey, let's make it looks like something out of a sci-fi movie!" or "let's decorate it with christmas decorations". I feel like that's the level that most of themes are coming from. Most of them are super high-contrast, mostly dark with bright highlights. And the light ones are BRIGHT! Then there are a few that are saturated a certain color, which really goes to pot when you're dealing with color-coded tracks. The number that I think are actually usable for any length of time is probably 5 at most. Alloy and Round is Right are at the top, then a few of the default variants, that's it. I've never liked MOTools, and I don't understand what everyone sees in Hardware, I think it's ugly.

Maybe I like the Hardware theme because I'm color blind,I see color but I'm sure what I interpret colors, shades and contrast a bit differently than people who aren't color blind.
When I was in High School,I was in an art class & unbeknownst to me the art teacher entered my artwork in a college competition. What surprised me is I was the only student he entered in this competition, saying he loved the way I mixed colors.
He almost fell down when I told him how strange I thought that was with me being color blind! lol
So yeah,I like the Hardware theme but maybe it's because I'm color blind.

I will say this about MOTU's themes....
I think there is a HUGE consideration in how far a user is from their monitor when working and how good their eyesight is. I can see the value of MOTU's high contrast approach for large monitors when you may have to be at a "less than ideal" distance from the monitor. It also has value for those with less than perfect vision, as the stock themes have a lot of "pop out of the screen" quality.
There's room and value for both my approach and MOTU's when it comes to these considerations. It's a big world with lots of different needs. I'm glad we are both here to accomodate the best group of DAW users IN THE WORLD.

I`m a dp8 user, there`re some problems about dp,i hope someone can help me to resolve them,my great thanks!
1.If two same pitch MIDI notes connected together(back to back),when i play them, but the second note can`t be sound, what`s the reason?
2.When i use the dp,the MIDI note has been sounding frequently, under the "Transport" light on, more serious.
The two problems perplexing me for long time, make me very troubled.I have to stop my work when the problems occurred.
I`m very eager to your reply!
Thank you very much!

You should probably start your own thread, don't want to get sidetracked on this one.

Best news yet! MOTU DP8 themes are like being hit over the head with a sledgehammer.

Put me in this group. A couple of yours work for me in DP7.24, and I've settled on Alloy in DP8 for now. The sharper fonts in DP8, especially in the Tracks window when vertically resizing, have already contributed to less eye strain for me.

Long Live the KING!

I can't wait to see what he does with the extra capabilities bestowed upon him by "The Designer."
AmpGUI Themes are about to get EVEN BETTER!

Problem with high contrast (and I'm sure this is old hat for you) is that it also has a tendency to cause "dazzle", where bright spots tend to flare out against darker backgrounds, and appear to be blurry. This is the case with light text against dark backgrounds. I remember back in a graphic design class that we were taught that grey on black is easier to read than white on black. I'm not familiar enough with MOTUs themes to say that that's what's happening, but I did notice a few dark themes that had the tendency to dazzle.
My father used to complain, without end, during the late 80s when all hifi hardware went from silver to black. Suddenly, jet black devices were cool, and silver was out. But he was right, reading small white text against a deep black background is much harder than black on silvery-grey.
When you're trying to create a short term impact and have a lot of control over how you do it, as on a website (done lots of web design over the years), light text on black can work fine. But as far as I can remember, with computer interfaces, I tend to stick with the tried and true light with dark text. So many companies these days are trying to go to black (adobe, for instance) and I end up changing the preferences around when I first install.

My Gold Mellow Hybrid seems to work okay when you change the string in the Info.plist to 8.0. Probably needs a bit of amending but the basics are there. And some of my custom themes too. The Style.xml file in the DP8 theme package content seems to work in the same way as the Default_Style.xml file in DP7 - so I would have thought some of this would be reasonably easy for Andy to convert his themes to DP8. I intend to start tinkering immediately as I don't think much of the new DP8 themes (Deluxe is okay). The png files work in the same way as previously. So pretty sure Andy can get these changed. So that is something - I am sure it won't take me long to change my custom themes to something that I can work with. Looking forward to seeing the Ampgui ones soon.

Here's the key - if you rename the Default_Style.xml file to Style.xml nearly all the colour elements work fine - Anyd's Gold Mellow Hybrid appears to work perfectly with this minor change. I think this is solved to be honest.

See my new thread on the solution - it really only took me 10 mins to solve as I loaded DP8 half an hour ago.
