Hey kg, is your mac capable of booting in 64 bit? Some 2008s can, others can't. If so, have you tried the 64 bit version?

Just saw a Motu Technote describing what appears to be a new challenge-response authorization scheme for DP. Has anyone who has DP 8 noticed if this allows more than one CPU authorization?

Inadvertently I trashed the AU info cache for 7.24,started DP7.24 up again and 7.24 would crash as the AU inspection finished and I couldn't get DP to go past that point & restart(tried several times).
I repaired permissions, rebooted the Mac & more of the same.......

Finally I uninstalled 7.24 and reinstalled and now it starts up fine,as does DP8
But when I quit 7.24 I get a crash log pop up.
I'm trying to stay in 8 & stay out of 7 if I can.
I've had this issue a bunch with 7.24 I suspect it's some plug hanging when I quit 7.24 but I haven't had this much lately, i uninstalled DP about 2 months ago and reinstalled when I last had this issue regularly.
It seems to have started up again today so I wonder if something with using 8 & 7.24 created some issues in 7.24 for my system.
Could just be some plug hanging as I quit DP but just in case I thought i should mention this.
Did you notice if there were any AUs that passed the scan in DP 7 and not in DP 8?

Hi Bayswater,
Yeah any that aren't 64bit when I boot in 64bit.
In 32bit I think they're all there.
I noted in another post AU info cache is in another location in 8,haven't had coffee yet so my caffeine deprived mind can't explain it now but it's a Motu folder in library.
But there's actually 2 AU Info cache folders the regular(32) and a 64bit folder.
I will be slightly more Clear once I drink some coffee.

Hi MLC,
You forgot we both went to the 64bit Kernel last winter,I've been in 64bit since then.
That's where where I am,I've tried both 32 & 64bit DP8.
I'm trying to stay parked in 64bit territory.
32 looks cool but I want to take advantage of the additional 64bit benefits even if I have a few less plugs and VI's for a while. The efficiency boost looks quite promising!

Best as always.

You don't have to boot in 64bit to be able to run 64bit apps!

Thanks. So far then, it looks like running DP 8 in 32 bit mode could be a reliable alternative to trying to run DP 7 and 8 on the same partition.

Yeah it is and the 32bit 8 works well but I came to the conclusion if I'm doing this I want to take total advantage of the system resources and boatload of ram in my Mac,which the 64bit kernel provides.

To get past the 4GB limitation I believe you do.

We all know this FL & we've discussed this many times, yes you can run 64bit apps in 32bit Kernal but as Junior eloquently says,to get past the 4gig ram limitation you need to be running in the 64bit Kernel.
Again some apps have server technology(Kontakt & Play) to get past these limitations but there are too many benefits running a capable Mac in the 64bit Kernel IMO that out weighs any plugs or VI's I will not be able to use until the other companies make the 64bit transition.

No. My Mac can only boot into 32bit mode, but I can load more than 4gb into RAM using a 64bit app.

So then what's the point in 64 bit? I don't think I'm wrong about the RAM limitation and my cagey dad seems to under the same impression. Maybe it's genetic?

I have VE Pro. I am wondering if once I got to DP 8, I can just run VE Pro in 32 bit version should I need Sample Tank? In DP 7, I do the opposite. I use VE Pro to run 64 bit.
But can;t I just use VE Pro to run the 32 bit apps once in DP 8, keeping DP 8 64 bit?

Dunno, but back when the subject first came, up as an experiment, I loaded close to 12gb (my max) into Bidule running a bunch of Ivory instances (which does not use a sample server scheme). It works. I promise.
