OK, I heard from MOTU that you can install it and run it on 1st-2nd Generation iPod Touch but that it might run sluggish due to less RAM and slower processor on those models. I would imagine higher track counts is where you would start to see the sluggishness.

So I guess, MOTU just didn't want to officially support pre-3rd gen Touches, but they didn't make so you couldn't try it either. Nice solution, IMO.

Still haven't had a chance to try it ... would love to hear reports from other users running DP Control w/ a 2nd Gen. iPod Touch.

Best,
Babz

(Funny, when I Googled to try to find info about how the early iPhones compare in terms of RAM (since 1st gen iPhone is supported), I couldn't find anything. I found listings of 128 MB SDRAM for the iPod Touch, but nowhere could I find any RAM memory specs for the iPhone.) :?:

Isn't simultaneous fader-control (the ability to ride more than one fader at a time) an iPad-only feature? The video seems to imply it is.

[i'm out of town and can not check this myself. thx]

That my be a byproduct of simply running it on the iPad software. In the App Store it is in th iPhone section and not listed as an iPad app. At the App store they include a little "plus" sign in the listing to indicate that if an app is designed for both iPhone and iPad. There isn't one on DP control. This means that yes, it will run on iPad, but not necessarily will be flawless and the GUI is designed for iPhone and you have to use iPad's built in screen zoom to enlarge the iPhone app to full screen.

The video does seem to suggest this, however you can move multiple faders from the iPhone as well as the iPad. I have an iPhone and have been able to move multiple faders at a time with DP Control.

FWIW: Apple's multitouch supports multiple simultaneous touch events and has done so since the iPhone debuted. The iPad doesn't contain any improvements vs. the iPhone that I am aware of.

I'm pretty sure Magic Dave used the iPad to demo the multi-touch fader capability because it has a larger screen and would have been more difficult to show that feature on video using an iPhone.

One other tip I just saw on the MOTU-MAC list for anybody experiencing issues with DP Control: Try launching the Settings app and turning off the "Bluetooth" and "Spotlight" in the General section.

Wow, just watched the MDave tutorial and I am truly impressed. So much so my next purchase will be an ipad. Although, I'm thinking I should wait for the next gen??.

I'm running it on a 1st gen iPod Touch and it works fine with a hint of latency (I was checking the counter on the ipod vs the counter in DP) for the 10 tracks that I tested it with. Like you mentioned, maybe with higher track counts the mixer would lag too much.

But I'm more interested in the transport controls and track list any way (wouldn't want my MCMix to get jealous)...so the mixer is just icing. Thus works perfectly acceptable to me.

Very happy with all MOTU has been up to as of late! just got 7.2, ipad, and ipod all working well with DP control. Amazing! could not be happier. now i just need an iphone. nice to have the transport on the ipod with the ipad working just as a mixer interface. good times indeed. can't wait to see what is next in line for MOTU!

I agree. I've only had DP7 for two days now (the install disk had 7.2) and it's fantastic!!!

Oh, and I was so worried that setting up DP Control on the iPad and in DP was going to be a technical hassle. Ha! I was done setting it up in about thirty seconds. I appreciated that.

I'm really excited by all this. I was thinking today that MOTU has turned things around like Apple turned things around. I was quite worried about both of them in the dark days, and what I was going to have to do if they didn't pull through.

Thanks for posting this. Bluetooth was creating problems for me. Once I turned it off everything was fine. I never would have figured that out.

Didn't see anywhere to turn off Spotlight in the iPad.

Thanks,

Just found another useful aspect of this in scoring.

I spend some time sketching in DP then notation in Finale. I find myself switching between the two, often just to hear what I've played in DP. This happens so often that I have a Quickey dedicated to switch between the two.

With the iPhone/Pad app, I can stay in FInale and playback in DP without switching programs on the Mac itself. This may sound like small potatoes but it is potentially a big time saver as you can keep you hands on the Finale controls, listen and enter notes, then start and stop with the touch of a button.

Cool, cool, cool!

I have been needing a reason to get my fiancee an iPad. This might be just what I was looking for - a $500 DP control surface that has all the iPad features to boot? Can't beat that!

Oh baby you are asking for trouble unless he/she is a music type. Kind of like buying your wife a fishing pole so she can have quiet Sunday's while you're away fishing... LOL!

I just got my wife a 32Gb iPhone 4g as she wants to watch movies, must get app.
Work pays for my phone so it is hard for me to get my own and pay one more bill. I do get a discount on her phone bill via my job so it helps some.
I am looking at apps for her now, what are some you guys like?
