My fan is doing the same maybe it has a sensor and only kicks on when its hot.
I'm not sure where but I clicked on something once and it launched their web site and just about blew me out of the studio.

It would be nice if you could re-size the ST window to make it bigger.
The small text can be a little hard to read.

I've been thinking about getting in on this group buy, which seems kind of like a no-brainer, but I have a question maybe someone here can answer. I already have Sample Tank 2XL. Will I be getting a lot of duplicate sounds from the Xpansion Pack, or are these all different sounds? Should I concentrate on getting the loops as opposed to instruments? Sample Tank 2XL has a lot of sounds, but you can always use something different, if that is in fact the case with this buy. Thanks,

There should be ZERO overlap with the instruments. If you like SampleTank, then getting any of these Instrument Xpansion Packs will give you a heap more variety to choose from. Same quality you are used to already.

Yep. It's amazing. There has been a steady stream of at least 50 new joiners per day, and now only 33 per day are required. 25 have joined in the past 6 hours. We will make it for sure. :-)

Even I am seriously considering joining a third time. There are a few packs that I wasn't much interested in, but they have 200+ instruments/loops per pack, and I know (without a doubt) that there will be some useful stuff in every pack, even if it is not in a genre that I usually compose in. For $4.17 a pack, I think I'll just have to get another 6GB of content. It'll come in handy at some point.

Like you, I have yet to find the "perfect" piano which satisfies what I am looking for on my piano tracks. But despite having the NI piano collection, PSP pianos and a 60GB EW piano, I still tend to use my ST pianos exlusively.

I have the original Piano Collection (all of which is included in the current pack). There are a few of them which I keep in my favorites folder, to compete with other pianos from the main SampleTank 2XL collection and some others that I have collected in some other GBs, including the Miroslav Pianos. Even if there is just one or two that you like enough to use on occasion, I think you will find it to be good value at $4.17.

Don't expect a heap of pianos that you love... and remember that they don't have much in the way of velocity layering, and no round robins. So they aren't necessarily as fun to play as a detailed piano, but they can work well in a recording, and some of them have a real charm which is the number one factor for my tastes.

There is a piano in the collection that is a dead ringer for John Lennon's piano in Imagine. So if you have a need for something that sounds like that the Piano Collection 2 is worth it just for that!

It is guaranteed. You don't need to wait. I am so sure that it will hit 6x1 that I will pay your joining fee if it doesn't. ;-) And no, I don't work for eSoundz or IK Multimedia. But I have been watching this for a month and a half and it is on the increase--not on the decrease. We will hit 4000 in a few days.
James Steele wrote:So in other words, you have to "play" the loops, you can't drag and drop them?
James, I was just reminded earlier this week of something I had completely forgotten. You can do this. The Loop Packs *DO* have MIDI for each of the loops (installed with the same names and in the same folders as the loops). So even though it is not quite as elegant as dragging and dropping the loop directly from SampleTank (which is rumoured to be changing in ST3), you can achieve the same results by simple dragging the MIDI file from your SampleTank folder into DP. :-)

I thought the loops were rex or apple loops, so what I am reading is that you play them with the player? You can not drop them in to a track in DP?

Are the loops useful? I may want some for movie sounds and effects.

I always use to be in the anti-loop crowd but that has change over the last couple of yrs I've found them very useful as a creative tool for building a tune.
But by the time I do my final mix everything has been re-recorded with live tracks.
I was just working with a guy that was terrible at staying on a click but when I loaded a drum loop he like he was fine.
I'm finding that's the case alot a times.

There are RAW versions of these packs (REX, Apple, Wave), but THESE are not them. This is the same content in a SampleTank format. As I mentioned above, you can drag the MIDI loop content into DP, but you have to have the corresponding loop loaded up into SampleTank if you want DP to play the loop with the original audio of that loop.
twistedtom wrote:Are the loops useful? I may want some for movie sounds and effects.
I use them mostly to achieve my own totally different drum grooves, but using the magic of however a particular loop sounds. Sometimes the loop is exactly spot on for how you want the drums to sound in your song, so you just manually play the loop as a virtual drum kit and get a great drum track that has the same tonal qualities as the original loop. Sometimes I just use the snares, or just the hi-hats, or whatever I need to enhance an existing drum track I am working on.

I love having this option... but it isn't for everybody.

As for movie sounds and effects, you might find some stuff in the loops. I am probably going to end up getting all the Hip Hop, Rap, and Dance loops just because I know there will be some stuff in there that could prove useful. I don't know about movie sounds though.

You should definitely grab the Cinematik pack, however. ;-)

Ahhhhh. Someone who gets it! ;-)

There are many ways to use loops as an effective tool. I have been trying to "educate" people about the use of these loops over on KVR, but I've been meeting resistance.

I have to admit, Motunation feels so much more like home. It is nice to have so many familiar faces around, and to know that what you contribute to the group will be read, appreciated and respected... even if not necessarily agreed with.

I can see your point on loops, I may have to give working with them a try. I always love trying things. I got the FX pack it is OK in that it did not cost much but most of the sounds I can make in MX or some other VI.

I would love to get a nice horn library for rock blues and jazz. Does any one know any that do not cost way more than I want to pay?

I like the strings and Bass collection the best so far.
