Here's some info on 10.6 that I've seen in the last few days:
Audio Hardware drivers -
Yes: MOTU, NI, Presonus,
No: RME, M-Audio/digi, Echo, Yamaha/Steinberg
Software:
No Hosts are *officially* compatible. That includes DP, Logic, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, and Cubase/Nuendo. Most are reporting no major difficulties, but are not yet ready to say that they're cool.
Plugins:
Yes: Waves, Synthogy, Native Instruments (except now discontinued Pro53, B4, Elektrik and Acoustik piano, although those may work)

Re: Snow Leopard Aug 28. Who are the brave ones?
Well I've just installed it on my live rig. Definitely need to install the new MIDI and Audio drivers (I'm using a FW Ultralite). Before I did that it would just hang.
Something new: Apple effects AUDelay, AUDynamicsProcessor, and AUBandpass now sport fancy new Cocoa user interfaces. These are the only audio units I can find that have Cocoa UIs. I learned this because I was testing Jambalaya with it and found that Jambalaya's handling of Cocoa UIs for audio units is not entirely correct and is visually distinct.
I tried DP - it handles the Cocoa UIs just fine. So - one less worry.
Based on the prevalence of Carbon UIs though - I think it will be some time before we get to 64 bits

I thought Motu's website officially confirmed compatibility with SL and DP 6.02
http://www.motu.com/techsupport/technot ... ow-leopard
I've also talked to an Apple rep claiming Logic 9 was fine with SL.

If you've seen Shooshie's report on DP6.02 and SL, you will see that fonts for QS are wack. With that in mind, I took *special* care to emphasize my merchant's citings that certain developers were reporting "no MAJOR problems". QS fonts may be a non issue for most people, but that's not meant to be a doomsday report by any means. I will also add that my merchant caught wind of some of his info "in the last few days", so some of this info might have been sorted out by now. MOTU has been putting up info on its site since the first of the week-- so the more recently posted info might be noted as precedent.
With that said, consider that MOTU includes DP 6.02 in its green-light report, but doesn't mention the QS font issue. That's why user reports are critical during this transition.... so that we can parse out the caveats and gotchas.
The important thing to remember is that DP6.02 was released some 7 months before the public build of SL, so if there happen to be some quirks, they shouldn't come as a surprise. Some of the caveats may be entirely user-discovered as opposed to developer-discovered. If, by and large, DP 6.02 works with SL, then it's worth mentioning. By the same token, if some aspects of DP 6.02 do not work with SL, then it's also worth mentioning so that other users can ascertain the benefits and risks of upgrading.
It's important to note that a lot of older software really IS compatible with SL, but there may be some considerations-- which may or may not be life threatening, which could vary from one user to the next.
Hope that helps dilute some of the confusion.

OK - so who is actually up and running with DP 6 (& MOTU hardware - MTPAV & 2408) with Show Leopard and how is your experience? I'd like to upgrade if some folks can report that it's stable. Well, DP 6 isn't stable anyway, but at least not LESS stable! Thanks.
Re: Snow Leopard Aug 28. Who are the brave ones?
No, no. You're fine and well within your right to ask! No mistake about that.sdfalk wrote:Consider my lack of attention to detail the main culprit..OOOPS!
I just don't want to leave the impression that any issues are bigger than they really are. As Joel hinted and Shooshie reported, there are good reasons to upgrade! But if there are issues, such as the QuickScribe font anomaly, users deserve to know about that, too.
MOTU also cites a number of VIs which are "okay" on their official report, but I recall over a year ago that some of those VIs were not 100% compatible with pre-rendering/offline bouncing. Since some of those VIs have not been updated since DP6 was released, it's going to take some brave weekend warrior to report whether or not Snow Leopard solved that problem or whether such problems remain.

Though I don't do much scoring, I do read music and find QuickScribe very handy.
Drat..everything else IS working far better then it had previously though.

Re: Snow Leopard Aug 28. Who are the brave ones?
OK then - are you saying that _DP6_ is working far better than before, or just your Mac in general? If it is DP you are talking about, does it help some of that awful sluggishness that came about when we left 5.13?sdfalk wrote:Drat..everything else IS working far better then it had previously though.

Re: Snow Leopard Aug 28. Who are the brave ones?
I've pushed DP very VERY hard.
High track counts, many effects, VI's, very low buffer settings, and have had
an exceedingly difficult time crashing it....actually
everything just grinds to a halt and stops.
(fewer) Almost no beachballs, My Konnekt 48 is behaving flawlessly
in DP 6.02, It certainly wasn't in Leopard.
PS
I have no idea what sluggishness you're referring to.

Ah-- he's talking about some of the things that came with DP 6.xx which were more sluggish than they were with 5.13. Some of this may have to do with VI pre-rendering--- dunno for sure.sdfalk wrote: PS

Re: Snow Leopard Aug 28. Who are the brave ones?
6.02 and 2408mkIII are working great in SL. Last fall I upgraded from PPC to Intel, from 10.4 to 10.5, and from DP 5 to DP 6. I was never close to happy with the new rig until now with 10.6. I'm sure part of it is that I've learned to avoid or live with the bugs that are still there (MIDI and audio I/Os not being retained properly in templates, for instance), but I'm also starting to wonder if there weren't a few issues with Leopard and the Mac itself that Snow Leopard has remedied. $29 to upgrade and the fact that Apple was touting SL as a refinement makes it look like less than a new full-fledged OS. Bottom line, haven't come across any plugs or apps that aren't working at least as good as in Leopard, and I finally feel like I'm working with a Mac again!

I am and without any problems to report. I pushed 6.02 as hard as ever on a session last night and it's beginning to look like DP 5.13 is in my rear view mirror.joelmusic wrote:OK - so who is actually up and running with DP 6 (& MOTU hardware - MTPAV & 2408) with Show Leopard and how is your experience? Re: Snow Leopard Aug 28. Who are the brave ones?
Man,
I just installed it and I've had a LOT of issues... Out of NOWHERE, and using DP in SL for around 2 hours, I got NONSTOP "systemUIServer quit", Finder Quit and iCal Helper Quit.... Again, again and again.... Had to re-install SL...
Now, that made the OS "stable", but NOT DP. BTD works A LOT better, but I'm now getting quits doing random edits, which I NEVER had before.... AND, again, out of nowhere, I had to re-auth DP... after using it with SL for almost a day....
So... For those of you who are getting along swimmingly with SL, how EXACTLY did you guys do the install? A new disk?
I did this: Installed PACE & new MOTU drivers (Already had 6.02 going as well) and then I installed SL over OS 10.5.7.... Then had to re-install.... Installed rosetta, which I don't think I really NEED on this machine....
