MOTU could try fixing this glitch for a start!

Re: Suggestions for DP 6.0.3
How about putting things back into DP 6.03 that we already had in 3, 4 and 5... such as;
1) In DP 5 I used to be able to click into the sequence editor while in playback mode and the wiper would keep going but the Auto-Scroll would shut off and I could go do an edit real quickly. Then, to get the Auto-Scroll back, I could just click on the top bar of the Sequence Editor window and things were scrolling again. All without ever hitting stop. In 6.02, this no longer works. I can click in the Sequence Editor and the scrolling will stop but clicking on the window bar no longer resumes Auto Scroll. Annoying.
2) Fix the jumpy/jerky auto scroll that used to be flawless and smooth in DP 4 and 5. In 6.02, the scrolling in the Sequence Editor is now very jerky and jumpy when you zoom in close enough to start doing some edits. Very annoying!
3) When option clicking an effect insert to copy its settings over to another insert or to duplicate it to another track, I sometimes have to wait a few seconds while DP 6.02 seems to catch up and then complete my request. Whereas in DP 3, 4, and 5 I could option click effects inserts all over the mixer with no performance drag.
4) In previous versions, I could open things like the CPU Monitor window and resize it in such a way that it would look good on my screen without being cut off by other windows. Well, in 6.02, things like the CPU Monitor window and others' seem like they were an afterthought. For example, you can't even put the CPU monitor at the top of the screen to the right of the Transport Bar without cutting off the bottom of the window with your main window. Do they look at the screen when they're designing this stuff? And for that matter, the whole new GUI needs attention quickly. It feels like they designed the whole interface around consolidated windows. Maybe they don't realize that many of us have multiple monitors and don't use consolidated windows at all.
Sorry if this seems like a complain-fest, but I'm just hoping someday Motu will read this stuff and address issues here. It seems to me that Motu needs to get under the hood of this thing and optimize it so it runs fluidly again. I mean, for the most part, things are ok, but why is it ok to make certain things that worked fine before, not work so well in a subsequent version. It's very annoying to upgrade to a new version with the promise of new features and fixes, just to find that some of the things you didn't even think about before have become annoying issues....
Well, there you have it. I think I've said the word "annoy" way too many times. But that's how I feel about just switching to DP 6. Things just aren't where they need to be. C'mon Motu, please get this program optimized and the bugs eradicated so we can all stop being annoyed (at least I am) and get back to making music!
Thanks,
Rainmaker.

A huge +1 on this, Rainmaker. Frustrating to say the least; I've spent most of my time in the GE to date.rainmaker wrote:1) In DP 5 I used to be able to click into the sequence editor while in playback mode and the wiper would keep going but the Auto-Scroll would shut off and I could go do an edit real quickly. This is exactly where I've always placed it, so I wholeheartedly concur.rainmaker wrote:4) In previous versions, I could open things like the CPU Monitor window and resize it in such a way that it would look good on my screen without being cut off by other windows. I've also noticed that scrolling the view (Control+Right Arrow) to catch up with the cursor doesn't really work for this anymore (in 6.02). It'll go there but won't scroll.rainmaker wrote:How about putting things back into DP 6.03 that we already had in 3, 4 and 5... such as;

Command+Decimal Point (Move Insertion To Counter) will bring the view to the cursor.
Re: Suggestions for DP 6.0.3
I REALLY hope Motu reads this stuff that we post here and takes it to heart. Honestly, how long would it take an experienced Motu programmer to work on some of these smaller but annoying issues? As far as I know, it seems they do snoop through here. I just hope they realize we all don't come here to moan and complain, but we come here and spout off so they can make us a better DP. Seriously, if they just took this one post and fixed all the little glitches that are mentioned here, it would be hailed as the best release of DP yet. And to think, with hardly any new features...
Thanks,

Re: Suggestions for DP 6.0.3
I think a lot of what you're talking about could be the result of hybrid Carbon/Cocoa frameworks in DP6 bumping heads in OSX-- just my estimation. Once DP goes all-Cocoa (especially in 10.6) some of that slicker-than-snot functionality will return with a vengeance.rainmaker wrote:How about putting things back into DP 6.03 that we already had in 3, 4 and 5... such as;

Re: Suggestions for DP 6.0.3
I think a few things could actually be part of the transport window - the Performance window, the shortcuts - there's all that space to the right of it (most people have at least a 17" monitor these days). What was wrong with the drawers in the transport in DP5 - I thought it was a brilliant idea.
TBH, I can put up with all the GUI hiccups (thanks to the Mods), but now using 6.02, it's slower on my G5 than 6.01 (and crashes about as much, if not more...).

Re: Suggestions for DP 6.0.3
Floating plugin windows [ ala logic style ] , mute MIDI regions , not just audio , a darker interface or a customatizable interface [ i have to use sun glasses when i use dp6 ! ] a better build program [ uses a lot of resources , way way more than Logicpro 8 and Ableton Live.. together ! ] input monitoring mode on the fly and low latency mode [again, ala logic ] elastic audio , automatic pitch change correction [ ala melodyne ] , use just one track ,in virtual instruments [ not opening 2 tracks ! , ala ''all DAW'' Programs ] a nice audio browser [ ala ableton live ] so you can just throw audios loops and samples , and make the workflow, way faster, i have to use ''Audiofinder'' for this.. better support for third party plugins....

I have to disagree to this one. I prefer being able to send as many MIDI Tracks as I want to any VI... Also it would defeat the whole point of using V-Racks...steinstein wrote:use just one track ,in virtual instruments

Re: Suggestions for DP 6.0.3
Simple requests from me -
1. Make 6.03 more CPU-efficient than 5.13, not less.
2. Get rid of the "warm-up" feature of MW Leveler. This kind of "accuracy" is
something no one needs or wants.
3. As far as possible, 6.03 should be compatible with most major plug-in
and VI developer's products. Which means, please send the very last beta
to developers before public release. Here's the list of developers that
need to be in on this:
Arturia
Native Instruments
Sonalksis
Focusrite
fxPansion
East-West
Waves
iK Multimedia
UAD
TC Electronics
Nomad Factory
URS
Audio Ease
G-media
Spectrasonics
Stillwell
Apogee
Presonus
Voxengo
Metric Halo
Toontrack
Modarrt
Korg
Sample Modeling
Garritan
Chris Hein
Scarbee
Urs Heckmann (u-He)
Magnus Lindstrom (Sonic Charge)
Softube
If anyone wants to add to the list, please do so. Point is, I don't think MOTU contacted any
of these developers prior to releasing DP 6.0.

True, but it'd be nice to have the option for VIs that have a single MIDI input and a single output pair, like MX4.James Steele wrote:Yeah... agreed. Re: Suggestions for DP 6.0.3
I just don't see the point of that. Unless of course you're just more comfortable in Logic and want DP to act like Logic. I think DP's VI implementation is the most intelligently designed VI setup I've seen in any DAW. Not just a matter of preference; I think the fact that we can address VI's just like rack gear is brilliant.
