You realize you'll loose all the Google connections, links from other sites, etc. unless you have a forwarding method in place. IOW, you probably need to keep the old name as a URL anyway...

I believe you. So I encourage you NOT to change it, even if MOTU is moving away from the Unicorn logo. Again, the corporate name is still Mark of the Unicorn... and even if, with the passage of time, the meaning of MOTU becomes another mysterious recursive acronym like GNU ("GNU's not UNIX") or LAME ("LAME is not Another Mp3 Encoder"), they will have a very difficult time ousting the unicorn. Why help them?

MOTU - "MOTU Ousted The Unicorn"

IMHO that is a valid and exceptional point. However, we know where we are. And "metatags" and reputation will do the rest in bringing attention to us...us....[sniff]...[flubber]...us...[lip quiver] Unicorns.

wahhhhhhhhhhh.

Perhaps a DP-themed name could be good. When DP6 comes out, I'd like to hopefully get MOTU's permission to make a skin somewhat based on the new look.

BTW, I've only listed choices where I have already secured the domain. And I think they all point here and have done so for a while. THIRDPARTYFORUM.COM is available as well. (inside joke!)
I agree. That's what I was going to say too. A DP themed name cuts to the chase. This is all about DP. The Logic Pro forum doesn't use Apple, etc. MOTU as a company name is pretty dull. I just can't seem to come up with a good DP-based name though!

Features change. History doesn't, unless, of course, we relegate it to a heap of confusion. :?

Exactly. If this were my site, I probably would not change the name. The primary reason is that it takes a long time to build a brand name organically, and changing that name can have unintended consequences. And for better or worse, Unicornation is the brand of this site (BTW, don't confuse "branding" with "making money." Branding has more to do with awareness and reach). Bottom line, I don't care what it is called, I come here for reasons other than the name; but James I would advise you only change the name carefully.

Believe me... I don't. :D

If I did change it I would keep the old domain alive for a good long time. In fact all the could change would be the logo (which would incorporate "formerly Unicornation" in the design), the skin, and the title bar text... I could make the actual new domain name the re-direct to this site.

Any way, I'm just kicking this around. And yeah, I don't make money from this so I can't give you a time frame as to when it will happen. Of course, given that this is a MOTU user site, if I tell you by Q2 2008, you can't really hold me to it, can you? :D

Maybe the new DP6 design will offer up an attractive new color scheme for the site. :)

Black/white with other cool elements sprinkled in.

Forgive me if someone already saw this, but I was just looking at MOTUNation, and saw:
Mo Tuna (it's a southern thing)
Mo' tuna, please!

I'm not sure whether this means anything or matters, but it's fun to note these things.

One thing nice about unicornation is its easy to say.
You don't have to spell it out as you would with some other domains

I did, but I thought it sounded too fishy. ;)

But many of us wish we were, just long enough to vote in November. Maybe even freshen up the name a little: The United States of Motuna.

:)

Don't worry, it means nothing in English or Swedish. Mo tuna, as in "give me so' mo' tuna, purty please." Never mind that... how about MoTunes?
