The pitch stuff is really cool looking, works like melodyne, great idea for those who don't own AutoTune. Now can we PLEASE be able to DISABLE MIDI SCRUBBING while RETAINING Audio/MIDI Auditioning? Why these two are joined by the same function I'll never know.

Man, I'm so tempted to download 4.6 (I'm still in 4.5). But I'm a wuss, I'd prefer to wait until the dust settles. Hopefully, in a couple weeks 4.61 will be out to smooth the rough edges in 4.6.

Aw, I'm sad to hear that AT pitch correction still sounds better than DP's. I'd love to get rid of AT. One less plug, one less headache.

More good news:

I quit all widgets in Dashboard. (Hold down the Option key while mousing over a widget, and its close-button appears--a black circle with an cross in it) Since doing that, I have not had a single CPU spike while running DP 4.6.

Unfortunately, the crashes are still very real. I cannot use the pitch correction feature without a sudden quit. I'm suspecting that it's the type of line that I'm using it on--a very complex wave form. I'm working in a piano file, and I just experimented on a single piano note. One is supposed to do this on a monophonic instrument or voice track, which would be a much simpler wave form. So, I won't bad-mouth the auto-tune feature until I've tried it on a proper track.

Anyway, if you are having processor spikes with associated noise issues, try closing down the dashboard. Quit every single widget. They continue to operate even when the Dashboard is hidden, you know. As I said, since quitting Dashboard, I've had zero spikes, whereas beforehand I was getting them about every 10 seconds.

Yeah, this is an important point which bears repeating. The dashboard is a really neat feature for the operating system in general concept, but in practice its very nature makes it a bit incompatible with real-time audio or video work, since every widget that's on sits in the background and hogs up CPU time and memory kind of like antivirus scanners.

It looks to me like widgets each grab a fairly hefty chunk of memory for what they do, and it wouldn't surprise me if you could gum up 100s of MB or RAM with them (if you go overboard like we all tend to with new toys), much less the repeated access to the network for real-time updates to weather, stock prices, the latest beer recipes, etc. If I were doing static graphic design, I wouldn't mind the occasional couple of millisecond delay this might create in waiting for something to render, but in audio that's death.

I did myself a favor and made a separate user for web surfing and, well...everything but audio. That user has a pile of widgets happily enabled, but the audio user does not.

Also, I noticed you can zoom in further on MIDI notes.

So far I've only done some minor MIDI work, so I have not had any troubles. Question for qo (I already know about Shooshie): are you all on Tiger? Maybe it's a DP4.6/Tiger issue.

I'm on 10.3.9, and I'll know more after I do some real work in DP4.6...

Hey Kubi - I had the same question concerning 3.9 vs Tiger re: Shooshie's performance issues.

I'm on 3.9 and will be testing all weekend. I'll post any issues as I find them as well.

Short session to test the pitch-shifting and v-rack. FWIW, I didn't stress it much but no crashing, no spiking. In fact, it felt snappier than usual. I'm on an iMac G5 running 10.3.7.

Hi Kubi,

Yep, I'm running 10.4.1 so, yes, this could be specific to Tiger.

For those that mentioned Dashboard as a possible source of trouble, I'm not convinced that this (at least in my case) has anything to do with the spiking. For starters, my G5 is about as high-end as you can get (though it's short 1.5GB RAM and a 10K drive). But, that aside, I'm not running any Dashboard apps in the background. And, even if I were, OSX does have a process scheduler so, unless the CPU is completely starved, the OS can do a lot to ensure that real-time apps get their share of CPU.

I plan to profile DP using OSX's CPU profiler this weekend to see where it spending most of its time (though the CPU profiler is sorta Heisenberg-ish). Maybe we can divine something from it if we get lucky enough to grab a profile while DP's in the process of spiking and compare that to a profile when it's not.

hello everybody...well looks like there is some good and bad stuff for every one...i really don't know if i have to update or not... moving when everything just works perfectly with dp 4.52 and my mac on 10.3.9 and bi-pro g4...
well my questions are: - is the 4.6 works great on 10.3.9 ?
-is the stylus remix( audio unit ) works with multiple outputs ?like they show on the picture of audio bundles )
i had problems loading the audio unit version of trilogy and atmoshere on dp 4.12 and dp 4.52 and fixed the problem installing the vst version of the VI'S via vstwrapper...is the 4.6 resolving the bug with audio units...
Is someone using RÂ from eastwest or the platinum brass with
KOMPAKT ..is it working also with separate outputs ?

well all the new feature of dp looks great thanks MOTU ...audio to MIDI..waaaa..i can now sing my bass line ...

Opening a multiple sequence 4.52 project in 4.6, if you switch sequences, the insert effects are disabled on the other sequences, even though you can see them, and also you cannot add any new effect, they have no effect. Saving the sequence as 4.5 and opening it in 4.52 and it works properly again.
