Michael Canavan wrote: Thu Dec 05, 2024 10:23 am I've mentioned this before, but the website KVR doesn't just have a forum, (where you can argue with people! ), they track every update and list every plugin they can find, it's also a store etc. They released a "KVR Studio Manager" beta application that has as it's whole purpose to track whether your installed plugins are up to date.
There was something like this years ago, and I was wondering whether anyone had picked it up. It could be very useful, despite this list and all the posts it gets. I have to spend way too much time checking for update, let alone doing the updates. Now that everyone has an installation manager it gets even more time consuming when every time you go to do an update, the updater has to be updated first. A shame if some find it untrustworthy, but KVR has been around for a long time. Has anyone had security issues with them?

Where do you see this? If I go to the site, or look at the App Store, 1.93 is the latest I can see.
The App Store only shows you the latest version with which your system is compatible. Could that be it? I'm on Sonoma now, and I got the 1.9.6 update right in the app today.

No, it was definitely a cache or link issue. When I went to it via the publisher's site, it offered up 1.9.3, and when I went directly to the App Store, it offered 1.9.6

This topic has *potential.* Unfortunately, there’s only a relatively small group of users who contribute and post. I seem to doing a lot of it. Anytime I check and find out about an update I post here. It’s a hassle. Takes time. And lately I’ve asked myself if it’s worth it. It would be nice if more people posted.

I have been using the Studio Manager for about a year, and so far no problems. A huge improvement in the beta was them adding the ability to hid the junk reports from plugins, for instance I think we're all mostly aware when you have an earlier version of a plugin that got upgraded, so it will tell you Kontakt 8 is out etc. There are some companies that do not publish their information correctly, so you might get false negatives etc. You can hide the results that you know aren't correct etc.

As far as it being invasive, it can only read the data on your plugins, and it uses links to the database on KVR to check against that data, then spits out a list. There's no writing ability, it can open a web browser for the plugin that needs updating, you can right click for show in Finder. Basically in the bigger picture it's a more advanced version of Plugininfo.

Quick video on it.

[edit] it should be noted that it only scans AU, CLAP and VST3 plugins, not VST2, since it was designed after Steinberg deprecated VST2.
M2 Studio Ultra, RME Babyface FS, Slate Raven Mti2, NI SL88 MKII, Linnstrument, MPC Live II, Launchpad MK3. Hundreds of plug ins.

Yes, it’s pretty obvious the topic depends on a lot of effort from you. If I get a notification of an update of something I have, and it hasn’t appeared here, I post it, but I keep a sparse plugin folder, and I don’t get many notices.

This is my most-viewed thread on “the nation.”

I do contribute whenever I get an update notice for one of my plugs (it only takes a couple minutes), but I don’t have as many VIs and plugs as some (no orchestra VIs, for example). Big thanks to James and all the others who contribute.

A guy I know who has more gear, VIs, and plugs than I ever will—Lee Blaske (arranger and/or keyboards for Beyoncé, Janet Jackson, Kelly Rowland, Renée Fleming, Céline Dion, and you name it)—tells me he doubts he’ll ever be able to keep all his stuff updated to the latest version… but still we try.

... or lack of update in the case of Harrison 32C-Channel. KVR said there is a version newer than the one I have, but I couldn't find it. SSL cheerfully replied that it is discontinued. There is a new plugin to replace it priced at about $1000 with 85% off sales. I found the old one useful as a starting point and I'm disappointed at what has happened at Harrison with the SSL takeover.
