Next question. My monitor has a DVI connector. With the trash can I could get a Mini Display Port to DVI or an HDMI to DVI adaptor. Is one a better option than the other? :?

The big High Sierra compatibility issues for DP users have been UAD and VEP.

UA released an update to UAD-2 that appears to solve the compatibility issue.
https://help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articl ... ease-Notes

UA hasn't fixed their installer issue but they have posted the workaround.
https://help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articl ... ility-Info

With VEP, the problem appears to be a bug in the current Mac OS. It's gone from the 10.13.4 Beta but no one is declaring victory till it's gone in the the lease version as well.

OS 10.13.4 / iOS 11.3 was expected as early as today but a Siri security bug introduced in iOS 10.2.6 should (hopefully) push back the release till it's fixed or Apple removes the feature that exposed it.

I don't know that you'll notice a difference. You have one HDMI out and 6 TB outs with total support for up to 6 monitors.

Thunderbolt/MDP to DVI adapters are inexpensive.

as are HDMI to DVI

Thanks, Mike. I knew about the issues with UAD and they have assured me that you CAN get the UAD satellite working with High Sierra if you follow their installation instructions carefully. I don't have VEP.

I found this and thought it might be helpful to anyone with a 2013 Mac Pro:

It turns out that the HDMI port is on the Thunderbolt 0 bus. I did not know that. I think I'll get an HDMI to DVI cable. Seems the simplest route.

Phil O wrote:Thanks HC. Yeah, I'm getting the 6 core model upgraded to 8 core and 500GB drive. It's the way you order it if you don't want the bigger graphics card. Why they don't just let you order the 8 core with downgraded graphics I don't know.

I have the 12 core (I run VIs) with the dual 500 graphics cards and 1TB SSD. I'm running 2 4K 27" Dell monitors and DP9.51 is running very smoothly. 64gb RAM. It was a refurb and eligible for Apple Care. Around $4k. I had a problem with one of the graphics cards out of the box, but It was replaced by Apple (there's an Apple Store 6 blocks from me-an easy walk with the Trashcan in a backpack!. I was told the 700 card was too much for DP type apps so I saved $ by ordering the 500. Your 300 may be fine. Please let us know. I've 3 partitions on the 1 TB internal SSD: OSX Sierra, a current projects volume and a spare to ease OS upgrades. (MIke H posted the advantages of doing this). FWIW, samples are streamed from external SSDs in docks. Project archives stored on HD clones, TM and cloud via Crashplan

Any info on eGPU is outdated. OS 10.13.4 killed 3rd party monitor support except for eGPU through Thunderbolt 3. A number of users are not happy with Apple at the moment—I expect that a 3rd party patch is in the works.

This also inactivated apps that turn iPads into Mac monitors and USB monitors using the DisplayLink boxes.

Having a DisplayLink box running from a UsB 2 port, I'm among those affected and had to go back to 10.13.3. DisplayLink has it working but in Mirror mode only—I need Extended mode. I really, really (really) don't want to swap with my wife's 2011 i5 that has a pair of TB ports but I need to have 3 monitors...
