Would I see the entire window of DP if I moved up to a 24" screen?
I've been told by MOTU tech support that DP is designed for a larger screen.....
KG-- I have a 30" monitor. It's not a monitor issue. I think MOTU confused basic resolution aspect ratios with what you're talking about. I concur with your concerns.

But, it's not altogether a bad thing. For one thing, MOTU seems to be on fire with doing fixes, based on the results of the 8.01 release. There are a couple of twiddles that they might want to look at for 8.02, but the current update is impressive.

What you (and I) have experienced is perhaps a quirk of OSX in which goodies in DP can actually exceed the capabilities of the OSX GUI, if that's possible. If you have all options selected for the Control Panel, you will not see them all no matter how far to the right you stretch the window (even if you drag half or more of the window off to the left of the screen). I don't know if this is strictly an OSX issue or if it's some quirk in the GUI developer kit that was overlooked (or otherwise not available).

The short answer: No, you are not crazy.

short reply,yes I am crazy ;-)

Longer answer:

I never used or liked the consolidated window previously, maybe because I don't totally "get it".
I streamlined my setup the last few months from 2 monitors to 1 & I'm trying to try to approach DP from a different perspective.
Kind of force myself to use DP differently as I've felt limited and in a rut. I'm trying to create a self inflicted DP and music paradigm reset.
I might try Shooshies approach of using spaces to have virtual monitors or I might just try going back to using 2 monitors,I'm really not sure, for now I'm trying to see if I can get used to the Consolidated Window concept.
Thank both Bayswater and Frodo for the info.

Thx.

Been working with full res movies all day. Smooth as silk. I don't need .dv files and frankly don;t want to chance importing one in case they screw things up. But aside from a few random crashes (which have stopped now that I have deleted the plist) DP 8.01 is solid here.

I had noticed anything yet often I rename my tracks from the Tracks window or Mixing board!

Might install and take the jump to DP8.01 today.. Thing is, Andy´s Theme/ my favorit AMPGUI, is ready for DP8 :D
When I´m thinking about it, I could always uninstall and go back (reinstall) to DP7.24.

Seems the theme that I was using in 8.0 is no longer there. Sadly I don't recall the name but it was mostly all green. Even the start up splash screen was green. It's completely missing....weird.

You are right - Lettuga Gustosissima is now missing! I have a version I converted to DP7 so I suppose I can unconvert to DP8. I wonder why that is? There may be a way of re-installing it from the disk - can't believe it was causing crashing!

Thanks for confirming that...and knowing the name of it LOL. Yeah I wonder why it's gone, I never had any issues with crashing. Possibly an over sight? Which would seem a bit odd. Well, not a big deal to me I'll just use something else and if they put it back in I'll use it then.

Curious why this feature would only work in full screen mode? Doesn't make much sense to me...

Now since I have dual monitors, which for my sessions I place my Sequence window on the 'Main' monitor and the Mixing Board on the 2nd monitor, when I open up a plugin and the GUI is in the Main monitor it stays on top. But when I open a plug on the 2nd monitor, which opens on top of the Mixing Board, if I then click on the Mixer the plug goes behind.

Hummm not exceptionally usable for my work flow but what ya gonna do right?

I wonder if they fixed my DCNotch bug?

I agree that it's odd that it works that way and maybe it's just an unintended byproduct of going full screen. It appears that when you go full screen it creates another space/desktop for the app, but acts a little differently with related windows. One issue is if you have other windows/plugs open in DP, sometimes when you go full screen it will leave those windows on your main desktop so they kind of go missing in the full screen window/desktop. It also does some pretty funky redraws of the consolidated window when going back and forth between the modes or other app spaces. Maybe this needs a little refinement.

The problem with your mixer is that the individual windows don't have their own full screen mode - just the consolidated window.

No need to uninstall 7.24 RG, they both can exist peacefully on your drive and the cool thing about the new plugins that come with DP8 also work in DP 7.24! I work in 32 and 64 bit mode right now until all my plugins are 64 bit compatible so I record in DP8 but mix in 7.24...

No improvement here. Video (.mov files) still choppy on my Mac Pro 1,1 as are all of DP's windows when playing back video.

What I ment by saying so is due the fact DP8 overwrites some of the DP7 features like Themes and export functions etc
I ment I can always uninstall both DP versions and start from installing DP7.24 again.

But hey.. after much hestitation I finally installed DP 8.01 today
Guess what?? It´s running like a train!!!
I´m impressed it takes my large and heavy projects and plays them like 4 track projects. DP 8 is so fast now, so snappy..

YES DP 8.01 IS SNAPPIER!! :)

Edited soundbites and did the usual edit stuff.. Where DP7 would show the beachball.. DP 8 kick on and is happy. Even my harddrives seem faster..

I´m gonna try staying in 64 bit mode as much as I can..
Still need to install JBridge for all 32 bit plugins.

:woohoo:

Very cool Radiogal! Glad you've hopped on the train ;)
So does everyone in Sweden have blonde hair LOL. When I think back to all those I have met from there they all are blondes! Weird.
