Hey, does that stand for kilogram drummer?

Good question. Also wondering if DP is using the same video implementation on the Win side. Quicktime is not 64-bit on Windows, and likely never will be (one reason why I wish A/V developers would get together at an AES meeting and come up with their own standard cross-platform video engine for both Win and OSX and stop using QT).studioj wrote:Will DP 8 still export to a QT movie when running in 64 bit mode?
Maybe that's why MOTU came up with their own video engine for DP8. My guess is that it will export to whatever is most likely to be used on each platform.kdm wrote:Good question. QT 7.x works in other DAWs on Win7x64 so far, but I'm not convinced it will continue to be updated/working down the road, or at least work well enough for pro use.
For some reason I thought it was based on Quicktime (as Cubase/Nuendo's are), but looking at one of the tips videos again, it does seems it could be their own. Export is pretty much Quicktime for everything, even on the Win side. I rarely get a client sending anything else for reference (Mp4/H264 are much more efficient, higher quality, and smaller than any WMA or AVI formats).Shooshie wrote:

I think MLC's comment on Kilogram drummer was to go with his photo of tiny drums not drugs, at least that is how I took it.
Did you notice if there were any AUs that passed the scan in DP 7 and not in DP 8?kgdrum wrote:1 thing that was a bit weird today,I don't know if it's at all related to installing DP8 but at 1 point I went to trash the AU info cache from DP8 to see if any of the plugs that weren't showing up would with a rescan.
Inadvertently I trashed the AU info cache for 7.24,started DP7.24 up again and 7.24 would crash as the AU inspection finished and I couldn't get DP to go past that point & restart(tried several times).
I repaired permissions, rebooted the Mac & more of the same.......
Finally I uninstalled 7.24 and reinstalled and now it starts up fine,as does DP8
But when I quit 7.24 I get a crash log pop up.
I'm trying to stay in 8 & stay out of 7 if I can.
I've had this issue a bunch with 7.24 I suspect it's some plug hanging when I quit 7.24 but I haven't had this much lately, i uninstalled DP about 2 months ago and reinstalled when I last had this issue regularly.
It seems to have started up again today so I wonder if something with using 8 & 7.24 created some issues in 7.24 for my system.
Could just be some plug hanging as I quit DP but just in case I thought i should mention this.

I just want to thank you for all your reports. I am taking notes on your findings and others findings so that when I get around to doing the upgrade myself I will have all the pertinent things to watch out for and suggested solutions right at my fingertips.
So I appreciate your documenting of these things, and I am indeed sorry that things haven't gone more smoothly for you on day 1.
Even though it may be a nuisance, please do contact IK with your SampleTank issues. I am on them myself about the whole 64-bit thing, and trying to encourage them (again) to release a 64-bit version of the current SampleTank 2 in addition to the upcoming SampleTank 3 expected early in the new year.
You're a trooper! I will be reading all of these DP8 entries with interest and probably will order my copy of DP8 sooner than later. This is the first time I haven't ordered immediately, and I'm curious to know how long I can hold out.
Funny enough, a cool MOTU video posted today on YouTube (about quantizing audio without splitting it) is totally doable in DP7. I tried it out and it worked like a charm. I can't believe I didn't know how to do that.
It is a powerful program, this DP that we all love.
