Really? Your G5 is noisy? Except for my "newish" HDs I never hear a thing. My toenails make more noise growing. The G5 does smell a little better...

I think the G5 was the one MacPro (at least in some configurations) that had a tendency towards noise... which I think was part of why Apply went Intel (the heat factor in notebooks being the bigger factor, of course).

If it were an early Intel Mac, you being local and a forumite, I'd take it off your hands...

All G5s are PPC. Mine is the June 2004 version of the Dual 2.0 GHz G5.

All MacPros are Intel. They changed the name when they switched to Intel processors.

I'm sure you've seen that early Intel Mac Pros are pretty easy to find on CL here in the Bay Area.

I think you mistook my statement as a question... it was rhetorical. :-)

I think he was simply clearing up confusion that might be created by your use of the term "Mac Pro." A G5 is not a Mac Pro. Mac Pro only correctly describes Macs that use Intel processors. When people run ads in craigslist that say "Mac Pro G5" they are not correct, but they try to inflate their asking prices this way sometimes.

G5’s were called PowerMacs, like the notebooks were called PowerBooks. As in PowerPC.

My G5 has always been very quiet, I think there were just a couple models that were noisier.

Oh, sorry, I forgot the terminology switch from PowerMac to MacPro happened with the Intels and not the G5's... probably because of all the false marketing that goes on out there in used MacLand. :sorry:

I tend to think it’s not so much false marketing as ignorance, I think most people just don’t know or want to figure out the differences. I sure didn’t.
