Sorry to hear that Songsmith but I don't recall a single crash since updating to 7.02 (8-9 hrs every day).
It maybe either a 3rd party plug issue or something else on your system.

songsmith wrote: I've seen crashes ever since I upgraded to OS X from my trusty old DP 3.1 on OS 9. It's irritating as hell.

So what I really want to know is... has MOTU addressed the stability of their software? I guess I'll find out when I download the update.

Duuuuude----- must be something other than DP- i run my system 24/7 - i never shut down DP or my computer- and i am working in my studio 12-16 hrs/day. When i am not i leave whatever song i am working on up- my system runs rock solid- so i am sorry to hear you are having problems.

And another user with zero problems with DP7.02 in Snow Leopard on Intel. Seems like you have underlying issues. Sorry you're having problems, but aren't you a bit too fast on the trigger there...?

+1 for no problems with 7.02, it's great (excepting my aformentioned Sup.Drummer issues, pretty sure it's not DP).

No problems here either. Haven't stressed DP7 yet, but it's worked perfectly well since I bought the upgrade.

Maybe if you opened a new thread and told us exactly what your problems are we could help, you know?

I've had two crashes of DP 7.02 and one kernel panic since I upgraded, all three are unrelated and have nothing to do with plugins and I don't run DP 24/7. I keep all crash logs since 7.01.

Usually...not always....but in general...kernal panics point to hardware incompatibility issues. Or at least incompatibilities in how the software drivers that control the hardware interact with programs. So I would start making sure all hardware drivers are up to date. All audio driver, video card drivers, etc...And also I have seen RAM chips going bad lead to "hard to find" kernal panic issues.

The beauty of Apple machines is that there are few configurations of hardware made and sold. Hence...software developed for it is usually pretty solid and the software developers (like MOTU) can plan for a smaller known quantity of hardware configurations. MOTU has gotten DP pretty solid over the years on "most" systems. If you are having trouble...which I believe you are by your posts...and you want to solve it, then again I would strongly recommend you begin looking at your installed hardware and any hardware you have in your system that is NOT from Apple (or MOTU in this case too...since their drivers when up to date should be fine). Any third party device that is not normally on a stock Apple system (including RAM). Begin looking there. Isolate those third party devices one at a time by turning them off or taking out a card, etc...and sooner or later you will probably find a configuration that does not cause DP to crash on you. Then it is that system (and its drivers or underlying software) that you can focus on as being the problem. DP...for most people is incredibly stable and thus MOTU has in fact written an incredibly stable program.
Regards,

Brian Ralston

hmmm - it took a year before motu pulled it's finger out and finally fixed my crash on save issue..

nothing to do with my hardware or operating system -

just a plain old bug in their software

now on my version of 6.02 i am pretty solid...

a few places where not to click ( around track folders) - or changing volume gain on playback can make u wait a while

I tried 7 - had a few hangs already on basic stuff like selecting a movie file to play - importing MP3 - not quite ready for my main rig..

interested in 7.1 but it's only going on my "play" system..

Dave La point liked my idea of the new folder muting capability having the option of being recorded or not by the internal tracks.

In other words, as it will come out in 7.1, if you have tracks INSIDE a folder with automation in RECORD MODE, and mute the play button on the FOLDER, the mute will NOT get recorded, even if tracks inside are record enabled.

But I asked for , and Dave liked, the option to have the track inside record the mutes or not, depending on how one sets the prefs.

In any event, folder muting is a welcome addition.

I was having some hangs due to my SSL Duende PCIe (V3) and I downgraded to most recent V2 and it's working like a charm. This was my only issue I've had...

I'm still pretty afraid of crashes in 7.02.

At first, I had several really long save times and a couple of oops.... DP7 gone events.
I run a pretty tight ship on my machine.
I also run a huge bunch of plugs and VIs.
I continue to update these and generally things are more stable.

I'm still holding my breath on paying sessions.

I'm happy to hear that some folks are crash free.

Maybe 7.1 will be even better.
All is well

The stated CRASH problems should for sure be addressed to the MAC setup as DP7.02 is exceptional reliable and stable on OSX Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard. PPC and Intel.

Did you do a OSX drive "repair permission"?
Check your third part AU´s too.

I'm happy to hear that you are finding 7.02 to be very stable.
I am constantly repairing permissions and doing all of the diagnostic tools.
My last couple of sessions were crash free, so I have hope.
I still hold my breath when clients are watching over my shoulder.
Nothing worse than crashes when you are charging by the hour.

When DP gets really unstable, I just change my rate structure and......

Tada!!!.."CHARGE BY THE CRASH"...

I know. The only thing changed before my last kernel panic was the upgrade to DP 7.02. It never happened again. I consider it a coincidence for now.

All three (two crashes and the kernel panic) mentioned happened in front of the client. He is a great guy and understands that no software is perfect. We lost about an hour of work total which is unacceptable for a professional application IMHO. When I was working with Logic, I had a few crashes too, but not a single bit of work was lost.
