A funny thing happened not long ago. All my extensions were changed into folders. How'd that happen? That may be what's preventing Snow Leopard from recognizing the extensions. (just an offhand guess)

My Firewire interface (896) is working, so I'm not completely out of luck, but I prefer the 1296 and the 424 PCIe card. I sure don't want to change all my audio configurations in all my files just for THIS!

Any clues would be most welcome.

Yes, indeed that did the trick. But the odd thing is that I had thrown that out twice! I didn't know that the installer kept restoring it. I had thought maybe if I uninstalled everything "MOTU" and reinstalled the drivers fresh, that it might work better. Little did I know but the installer was replacing that Tiger Kext every time! It's working now.

I took the plunge and so far I'm happy and cautiously optimistic. I decided the route that I'd take would be to perform a clean install and replace my OS/Apps drive with a new Seagate 7200.12 1TB drive for $85.00 US. This way I can experiment and revert back whenever I need to by just sliding in the former drive. Plus, when I'm certain that things are stable, I get the advantage of more space for my OS/Apps drive! I love the sleds on the Mac Pro!!!! Anyway, all is well and I'm hoping that it stays that way!!!

Just updated on Friday. I'm very impressed with the new speed improvements to the general applications (mail, safari, etc.). The other new features are nice but nothing substantial.

DP works just fine. Just as it did with Leopard.

Here's a list of everything I found working with Snow Leopard
DP 6.02
Synthogy Ivory
All Adobe CS4 Design Premium apps
Vienna Ensemble 2 (but it takes longer to start up)
EastWest PLAY
Finale 2010
Stylus RMX
Omnisphere
Kontakt 3.5
MOTU 828mk3
Sonnet Expresscard 34 eSata card

I was very happy to find that all of my software worked right away! I've only had a couple crashes in safari but otherwise things are great.

By the way, shutting down the computer is insanely fast now. My Macbook Pro shuts down in about 2 seconds after I press the shut down button. INSANE!!!!

Our copy of Snow Leopard arrived this morning. Things shut down early on Friday at Receiving, so it probably would have arrived then otherwise.

My Java client app, and our Qt-based mostly-C++ client app, both forced the download and install of Rosetta. This will of course affect performance, but the areas affected are not performance-critical (it seemed to have made the decision on a window-by-window basis vs. top-app-level, but this is second-hand info so may be imprecise).

From this, I am guessing that most apps, if not plug-ins, will at least run on Snow Leopard, but that vendors will probably want to recompile and re-ship stuff as soon as they have the necessary info (and/or tools) to build SL versions. And my understanding from someone else at work today is that one generates a more successful SL app if one skips Universal Binary and goes Intel-only.

As has been stated before, any crashes are most likely caused by some third-party plug-in or other..

Your advice to wait MAY be correct, but now you've upgraded, you should try to work out what is causing your crashes..

Then you might be in a position to actually help other users! 8)

Never crash before upgrading. I don't know yet what causes these crashes, sorry

Most people are reporting vastly improved operations on DP 6.02 in Snow Leopard.

If you're actually having crashes, you should do some troubleshooting and figure out what's causing them. Did you install all the new drivers?

Try booting DP without VI's and see if that fixes anything.

Has anyone done a lot of editing (edge edits and x-fades) with DP 6.02 and SL yet? In Tiger and Leopard, that's where I always ran into crash problems. I save before every edit.

Thanks

I went with SL and DP 6.02. Previously I had every random crash you could think of. Move a bite, crash. Edge edit, crash. Etc. Never could see in the crash report what was causing it. But I kept using 6.02 and just saved after every move. After I installed SL I made sure all my VI's worked and then tried anything and everything to make it crash. Nada. Not yet. I even split a bite, edge edited, duplicated and time shrunk it while the 22 track file was playing. Nothing. Chugged along nicely. But, like Shooshie Quickscibe is broken. Checked my fonts. DPFontV2 is there and validated. If there is another font that Quickscribe uses I don't know what it is. By the way UniversalUVIPlayerMAS.bundle crashed DP on startup, every time, until I figured that one out. Just took it out of the components folder. So far I'm feeling good about this upgrade. But i'll keep testing.

That's encouraging news.
