OK,

I am very psyched about Bidule. But MAN am I confused here. I have loaded an AU on the patchbay and can now play my MIDI keyboard to get a sound.

Bidule does show up in DP, but how the heck do I route this into DP and how do I setup specific MIDI channels? Is there a DP tutorial on how to set this up anywhere?

Make sure you open DP first and Bidule second. Then create an AUX bus in DP with input as "Plogue Bidule Device". The MIDI channels "should" just show up, and you can choose them from the output pulldown in a MIDI track.

I posted a thread about the basics as well on the Plogue forum. Site admin's reply:

"One thing that is specific to Bidule is that you need to enable at least one output in your ReWire host app prior to launch Bidule otherwise it won't launch in ReWire mode. So all you should have to do is select New Stereo Bundle, Plogue Bidule Device : Bidule Out 1-2 on an audio track and then launch Bidule."

Bidule has a "Rewire mode" apparently.

Yup, that's what ya gotta do... I didn't realize that at first, and was pulling my hair out.
Also, another thing that I had to figure out was how to set more rewire outs in Bidule. You have to run Bidule as standalone (not in re-wire mode) to open up the re-wire settings. Set the amount of outputs.. I have mine set to 32. Then open up DP, then Bidule, and you'll be good to go.

...fantastic discussion here (and fantastic compositions!). I just have a couple of questions here because I've been having difficulties getting DP to be stable with lots of VIs, dropped samples, etc.

1. Does Bidule work with EWQLSO (and other VIs) as it does with Kontakt? And would I be able to load multiple instances of EWQLSO along with other VIs and completely take the strain off of DP by loading them entirely within Bidule? Wow, to be able to load a complete template of instruments without worry would be amazing.

2. In DP, I only deal with MIDI and then bounce to disk as necessary. There's a lot of discussion here and elsewhere about audio using Rewire and Bidule. Does Bidule + DP require Rewire, or does the VI audio all run through DP anyway, meaning the bounce to disk process functions in the same way (I don't quite understand what Rewire is anyway so this is probably a rather stupid question).

Also for those (like me) who were struggling to get ReWire working, you need to have the ReWire extension installed, which isn't installed by Bidule. You can get it here

Could you explain why you often have 2 of the exact same sounds on neighbouring MIDI channels?

I do that primarily on ensemble patches, that span the length of the keyboard. I do this so that I have separate volume control for two lines that use the same patch. For example, it's so I can have something like low-voiced strings chords with hairpin cresc and decresc and the other channel can just hold a single high string note or something with no dynamics. One is for high stuff, the other is for low stuff. It helps when exporting MIDI to sibelius too.

Has anyone asked yet about your columns setup, Mike?
I've always gone with the stock order, though not with all showing.
I'm used to it after all these years, plus the signal flow makes sense to me, going from input to output.
Any special cool reason for having the input/rec buttons on the right?

I do that simply because it's closer to the tracks. Better than having the record button all the way to the left... farther for the mouse cursor to travel. That can waste precious nano-seconds!
