I don't know if it's only a DP/Motu problem.
I mean, I separated my audio/samples on ( I hope) good drives (Samsung Spinpoint), and so far,
the "save" action is faster.

On DP5.13, and mac pro 2.66 - Tiger 10.4.11.

Here are a couple more that bug the heck out of me and for the life of me I don't know why they don't fix these items... Version after Version keeps coming out with no change to these annoying items...

1) PLEASE give us the option of having new tracks default with their buss send volumes to off!

2) PLEASE give us the option to select multiple tracks and change their bus sends all at once (both outputs and volumes). Example, select ten tracks and change all of the first send outputs to bus 1. Having to change each one individually is a complete time waster. Yes, I know you can group the send volume knobs, but not the outputs.

3) BETTER THAN THE FIRST TWO, give us the ability to save a channel strip as a default so anytime we create a new track, it would have all those elements assigned already (bus sends, bus levels, inserts, etc...)

4) PLEASE make it so when you have the mixer open as a second window, it resizes properly. Example, when you have the mixer open outside of a consolidated window (a second monitor perhaps), anytime you pop open the Track Selector window, the mixer resizes to fit the Track Selector. But when you close the Track Selector window, the mixer window becomes smaller instead of spreading back out to fit the space.

5) PLEASE change the rewind button functionality in DP so as you keep hitting rewind, it keeps rewinding faster and faster. Rewinding and Fast Forwarding in DP are painfully SLOW if you use the built in transport. This would also need to apply to control surfaces so as you hit their transport buttons, it would work the same way.

6) Did I mention stability?

these really are valid points...

auto save - ( or crash rescue - would be awesome...)
isnt the fader in seq editor covered by having a consolidated mixing board which follows the selecetd track ( there is a pref and this works quite nicly...)

something I'd LOVE to see, (and I'm not sure if someone else already mentioned this or not) would be for the track names on the mixer to be "locked" to the bottom of the window, so if you have your window set to less than full height, you could scroll up and still be able to see the track names. I can't remember how many times I've accidentally tweaked panning or send controls on a track adjacent to the one I meant to change.

I will totally second this, I do the same thing all the time.

+1 here too.

Surely only a 14-minute tweak for the talented boffins at MOTU. Just quietly, this is my new strategy - remind 'em of how capable they are whilst imposing a pseudo time constraint. That'll help keep 'em in shipshape.

I posted this before but I will reinstate this feature request as I feel this would be a wild and yet easily achievable ground to break from a technical standpoint, so here it goes.

in the mixing board, the pan section should be enhanced, I would love to see the option to select my "pan style", as in there would be a selector switch to change between styles, like balance, where the left right volume balance is affected, and then mix, where the signals will blend ala the trim plug but more convenient, then dual, where you can blend and balance in the pan section, and possibly a stereo width or spread control.

this seems very realistic by current capabilities and would be an "every single session guaranteed" kind of workflow enhancement.

also, please update the model 12, make a model 24, with 24 parts and with pan and split options for mono files, this would put the mono file on left and right sides with controls for offset of 2 separate start times off play triggering, and 2 separate start times for the file or sample launch point. with this you could drop a snare in one slot and the offset the left to start just a few Milliseconds early or late on one side, creating a nice swooping crack from side to side by impact rather than a traditional sweeping pan movements, does that make sense?

I will sometimes achieve this effect by making a model 12 kit, copy it to a 2nd track and pan hard left and hard right, then offset the MIDI notes. Doing this directly in the sampler with sample start, trigger start and tune adjustments for left and right separately would be a truly sweet tool to have with so many possibilities, and of course 5.1 as well 8)

It wouldn't be enough to inhibit sales of the Mach5, but it would rival the esx24 much better from a marketing standpoint and would be a very unique and creative ability and would excel at separating DP from "just the rest". 8)

I wouldn't mind if the Trim plugin could essentially be duplicated or partially duplicated in the channel strip. Specifically I'd like to see the two "wipers" in the Trim plugin right there with the panning knob. They could leave the Trip plugin for those who want sensitive metering and individual volume controls over L&R channels, but those wipers would be great to have for instantly setting up the width of your pan, essentially giving you more control over the panning "laws" without having to open Trim.

Perhaps MOTU could make the panning knob change to a pair of wipers, then a pair of volume knobs, when one holds down CONTROL, and CONTROL-SHIFT while clicking on the panning knob. Better still, such Control-clicking would toggle ALL tracks' panning knobs into the wipers or volume knobs so that we could see the settings for all the tracks. Control-Clicking again would bring back the standard panning knob. Holding down the COMMAND key while adjusting the "wipers" or the dual volume knobs would decouple the L&R symmetry for independent setting.

I have heard from so many people that they use the Trim plugin on nearly every track for this reason. So... why isn't it a part of the channel strip already?

If this hasn't already been mentioned... how about UNDO in the Mixer? I can't tell you the frustration of changing a parameter on the wrong channel and not being able to get back to where you were!

If it happens to be a fader, you can go back to whatever you had... as long as you don't let go of the mouse. If you let go, you're screwed, but otherwise, keep moving it until you see the fader read-out turn BLUE. That's the value you had before.

I'm not sure this works for the rest of the parameters on the mixer.

Having said that, I agree. It would be nice to have undo in the mixer every time, though.

Shooshie:
I could not agree with you more about the trim thing in every channel in the mixer, next to the Pan. Maybe even instead of it.

TO be able to change the colors of the tracks from the mixer window.

Small volume fader in the SE window.

Yes; to be able to choose from the current Balance control, or separate L+R pan pots in stereo channels would be great.
Slotted set screws at the bottom of the fader (or the top of the strip) would be cool for 'input' trims.
