Yeah, the Waxmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan.

Dude, Ethno is doing offline BTD as well under MAS? If so, that's great news. It would also mean that it wasn't the non-bundled MAS VIs that needed updating as I was told a few weeks ago.

magnumpraw wrote:Now that the first maintenance release is out (and I have a couple of down days) I was thinking of trying out this new monster but have a couple questions.
From those brave souls who have gone ahead with 6.01 can you tell me if it is still necessary to use the old 5.13 AU-MAS wrapper? Or have they fixed it so the one in 6.01 now works?
I am using Waves, SoundToys, Kontakt3, EW Play, StylusRMX, and BFD2

Also, what is the best way to do this? Is it enough to make a separate user account to install 6 to? Or do I really need to make a new partition or a new drive with a whole new OS install and go through the draining process of installing/authorizing plugins, vi's, etc. :( ,lol?

Any insight would be mucho appreciatedo.

Thanks!!
At least one user is finding the combo of the MAS AudioUnit Support.bundle from 5.13 and DP6 more stable:

Yes, tell us. I wouldn't want to be spreading any disinformation. I don't own Ethno so I wouldn't know about that. I am pretty sure MachFive2 isn't doing offline BTD under MAS but I think it will as AU. I'm too lazy to go check this out right now. I know UVI Workstation does this under MAS, but pretty sure Plugsound Pro does not.

jeez
I'd say the symptom is darn-near chronic on this end. Record enable, record disable-- yes. And further- copy/paste as well as saves! It's like everything comes to a stand still for about 3-4 seconds, then the beach ball appears for another 10 seconds after every move.

I'd kept pretty quiet about 6.0, but I just don't understand what's going on at this point, but at least it didn't crash.

are you guys experiencing this, it got broke when 6 came out and it's still broke in 6.01.

http://screencast.com/t/IZADXviGxrF

The GUI colors are SO much better. The light colors for audio tracks with the darkened background no longer gives my eyes a headache :)

Still one terribly disappointing thing for me...
I still can not edit cc64 MIDI data at all without the event list.

Once you move the bottom cc64 data "black dot" it jumps up to a MIDI value of (1) and can not be put back to zero (off) without editing the value in the event list. Major pain in the butt because this makes the sustain hold all notes after that. I have been editing a ton of piano MIDI, and I am forced to use DP5.13 because DP6.0 and now 6.01 is still broke in this regard. I get the same results in the graphic editor too.
Anyone else experiencing this?

I used to get this problem (CC64 at a value of 1 on the GE) on a previous version of DP (I think it was 4.6).

I'll check it out.

There remains the problem of putting in pitch bends as well-- extremes cannot be put in graphically or with a controller-- only numerically. This was something that was around in DP5.

I had to do a Force Quit from my first DP 6.01 session as well, but also had to Force Quit iTunes (which I had forgotten I had left up -- I usually have it up to compare ongoing work to previous mixes). I noticed afterwards that the VSL daemon was still running, even though I had disabled the Vienna Instruments VI instance in the project I had just closed. But maybe that is the usual behaviour, and I just never noticed, as I wasn't using the Activity Monitor much before since it eats up 13% of CPU.

Overall, v6.01 seems a bit snappier, the new preference for overriding VI pre-rendering makes a huge difference, and I'm glad to once again be able to dismiss individual windows without having to drag their separator bar to the edge of the screen (that is, the "X" for each window has reappeared in this release).

Hey Martian:

I wouldn't say that "only functionality is important"-- but prettiness should most certainly not be to the *exclusion* or *subjugation* of functionality. I've intentionally held off on saying much about DP 6.0, but now that the update is out, I'm really feeling as if the cosmetics are more of a distraction where beach balls and hiccups are more noticeable than anything they've done with the GUI.

I'm increasingly suspicious of "bells and whistles" when the "meat and potatoes" fall short.

6.01 is only a small step in the right direction, but it's got a woefully long way to go.

Sounds like my life, Hobby. At least things seem to be improving (unlike my life LOL!).

Further, I'd estimated to the fella that 6.01 would be shipping within 2 weeks or so, in response to which he laughed out aloud. That was 8 days ago.
That is so unacceptable, it makes me want to fill a whole post with angry, crude language (I can still think it, though  ).
At the very least, Nicky, I would write a hard copy letter to MOTU headquarters stating the facts of the situation.
I'm sure MOTU doesn't want their distributors treating their customers that way, and there needs to be some accountability.
But don't write it when you're too angry. IMHO, the facts will speak for themselves.
Ha! Thank you Bill for the kind sentiment.

Honestly, I'm used to this sort of thing, and am grateful that I have DP6 as I can get stuck into the manuals (ugly as they now are with the crimps). I learned very early on in life not to look a gift horse in the mouth. It was just disappointing given the long wait and the inconveniences of being woken before even getting an hour's sleep those two days, the condition of the manuals and the facts that I was laughed at and my request to hold out 'till 6.01 ignored. No biggie - folks are more fallible than ever AFAICT. :D

I'm packing some lunch and heading overseas in my ultralite - and a flash drive with MM's update.
Wish me a quick, painless death.
RK, with an attitood like that, death is not something you'll succumb to; you can look forward to fun times in higher dimensions IMHO. Thank you for the sentiment and laugh. :D

Good ol' Mark. You're a good mate, mate. Thank you.

As I said earlier, I'll be fine, thanks. The fact that the file is a quarter the size of recent ones and bucks the trend of the ever-growing update is a bonus to me - it'll only take a couple o' days to d/l. Oh, and the download has apparently resumed properly today. Yay!

So far we've discovered that the snapshot (mixer) and "x" button for individual cells in the consolidated window are back, so that's a start, eh Gary? I don't use the CW myself, and I suspect you don't either, but hey, the "make the cell go away" buttons are back.

I've gotten Atmopshere and Trilogy Wrapper to work in 6.01 with the new masaudiounit support bundle 1.7. The trick is to make a blank new instrument, then make sure it's set to run in real time before you load in atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, it's still very buggy and I don't trust it but I could get both to run and was able to sequence and then freeze the track.
