General question: What kind of music do you write with DP?

Boston is such a good place to make music.

Man, I miss that town. I went to school there. It changed my life, and still, 15 years later, I have dreams I'm living in Boston. What a great town, great talent, and a place to do so much musically. The North Shore ain't bad either!

...well it's a famous drum loop from a 60's soul album from a song called "Amen Brother." THE most used and abused 6 seconds in history.

Dang, I knew I'd been living in the wrong part of the world these last 20 years. How knowing someone like you could've changed my life, Wylie; I might've been spared at least some of the 20-years-of-Hell period of my development.

I know MM I went through the same thing until someone gave us a break.
Its all feel good thing now just helping some of these kids out.

I hear ya Wylie. I can't wait to get this personal side of it over and done with so I can do the same. IMHO, you're in a better place right now anyway, regardless of your success or otherwise in bands and as an artist. I can't wait to be useful to folks again. Helping to shape kids' futures - wow!

I like the amen break as well (as well as cutting up other breaks)... Though its funny, I tend to cut up my breaks in DP and then use them in Live when I perform...

interesting to see what people are up to.

i use it mostly for my own downtempo electronica, recorded with lots of real instruments. i put out an album in 2005, recorded entirely in DP.
it was also mastered in DP by a mastering professional, who i've spotted on this board.

i've been doing dance tracks a lot lately.
over the years i've used DP for guitar practice, audio editing, radio features, sampling, recording dj sets, recording my kids and so on and so forth.....

Semi-pro musician since '82, pro since '97 (thanks to the loveliness that is being a one-hit wonder! ).

Recording systems: Fostex X15 -> Tascam 688 -> G3 + Logic -> Mac Pro + DP6.

My band has been described as 'A Tuberculosis-ill circus orchestra from Hell'. And who am I to argue?

I genarally write and record the song ideas/first demos in DP with some really simple drums (Battery) and VIs and me playing guitar (badly) then I take it to the band and they play it so it sounds good.

I record local bands for cheap in my studio to help pay the studio rent and also to learn a bit about recording/mixing.

I took a musical layoff from 1989 until last year when I dug out my old gear and bought a new computer and bunch of software including DP. I spent a couple months rescuing/transferring a bunch of unreleased 80's pop and dance song sequences I wrote and stored long ago as ESQ-1 sequences and stored on Mirage disks. Now, with the transfer of the data completed, I'm recording a bunch of rock and pop covers just to build skills and familiarity. When that's done, I'll start rebuilding the old song library on new technology along with writing new material (I've already started a little of that).

Its been a long slog to get my skills back but they're getting there. One of these days I'll finish the first album.

Don't be surprised if the ESQ sequences are tricky to recapture the vibe for with the new gear, FWIW.

Funny you should've mentioned skills too - I somehow thought mine would follow and grow with me. Well, my perspective grew but the skills seem to have gone AWOL. Shocking!

I do feature film scores and score a couple of TV series all on DP. But I still use PT when called on for songs, most of my heavy mixing, delivery and studio transfers.
