You have control over how light or heavy the tinting is. It really helps separate or group sections of the mix, especially in larger sessions, really makes things obvious at a glance.....
+1
I already suggested this in some other thread (not that I'm accusing you of copying!), this would be far more useful than being able to colour waveforms IMHO.
Just verifying: Yes, Spikey
did mention it a while back.
Carry on.
Oh, FWIW, I've not seen what this looks like, and so daren't offer an opinion. It's an intriguing concept for the Monkster though.

Though I agree that DP6's minimalist interface has probably something to do with its better performance (at least on my system...) I was totally content with the sleek interface from DP5.
I remember a thread suggesting a GUI redraw a while back and most repliers to the thread were totally opposing, saying that it was fine the way it was. Besides that thread I don't remember seeing any other serious redesign thread before DP6. Now that we have DP6 it's all over the place...
Don't get me wrong, I am already getting used to the new GUI as I'm pretty excited with all the other additions from DP6, but as far as I'm concerned, it could have stayed the way it was.

At the least if they just put back the slide out shortcut menu on the controller pulling down from the bottom and added back -+ to the top of the windows for waveform scaling I would begin to use it.
The fact that you have to put a MIDI channel in record ready to preview bothers me allot, (maybe a setup I hope) and there are a host of small inconvenient things that impede work flow I hate. I still have to wonder what they were thinkin here.

Man, nevermind the GUI. Functionally, the VIs aren't triggered by my MIDI controller, not even MIDI keys. The MIDI track records the performance data and the VIs play it back. But the VIs don't sound when playing either controller or MIDI keyes.
I've done the usual things, enabled MIDI patch thru, disabled local control on the keyboard, record enabled the MIDI track, correctly set the MIDI track and instrument track output assignments, and nothing. Yet, my physical MIDI sound modules are triggered just fine.
It's annoying.

I KNow. You have to put it in record ready, lite the record button...

I give it a C. In the pike 5 by 5 except the Markers/Streamer column is too wide.

I just spent another 4 hours with it.
I know I've said this before, but a lot of stuff seems so much smaller. For example, these *tiny* disclosure triangles that hide the mini-menus. Why hide them--so we can all bask in vast expanses of whiteness?
I love so much about DP: its depth, its razor-sharp accuracy, its adaptability to different working styles, its lack of gimmickry...
But there's something impractical about this GUI. It's like driving a new car with a sleek minimalist dashboard, where the dials and gauges are hard to read, and others are hidden.
I'm going to stick with it--even if I go blind and crazy in the process.
Regards,
Bill

Well, blind anyway. LOL!
I hear you Bill. Hang in there; MOTU must be fully aware of the general sentiment with regards to this issue on the board by now. I hope.

Yesterday I tinkered with the default_style file and darkened the meter window background and changed the meter color to something else, just to see what was what. (no pictures, please).
That creates other problems, such as the text losing its definition, etc. I suppose I could spend a few hours perfecting my own design, but I don't want to. I'd rather have that taken care of by the people who've spent a fortune to evolve it to what it is today.
BTW, I prefer the new mixing board. Lose the white, keep the GUI. Lose the dress, keep the shoes?

Gee? I'm just excited that you can Vertically zoom in the Track Overview window??
I've actually grown quite fond of the simplicity of Live's interface. Favorite feature is the lack of little icons for every function, like Sonar, and DP to a degree.

Thanks. Will do. I'm working on a new piece called
The Three Blind Mice Variations.

LOL! Hey, that'd sit nicely next to my "The Blind Men and the Elephant" variations. We could put it out on vinyl as braille. LOL!
Nothing to see here folks - just a couple of crazies. LOL

Anyone play with the image resources files in 6 yet?

I've changed my opinion about the disclosure triangles hiding the mini-menus. It's O.K. for me---doesn't slow me down. Maybe make them a little bolder and/or a different color?
Not a biggie.
This build is proving to be much more stable than I had feared. Boy, talk about back-handed compliments.

Bill

Overall I find the interface very workable. It's just not the interface of DP5.
