Yeah, I read that note about Mono while waiting in the airport last night (I was too busy to do much of anything, including reading, the past two weeks due to an intensive training program). Unfortunately I can't remember if I used the "mono to stereo" version (which I think is what was meant by the earlier post), but once I get the "real" versions next week or so, I'll be sure to take this advice to heart. It seems a simple and likely explanation.

I saw in another thread that you were considering upgrading your computer, and if you do, you should have no trouble doing live tracking with the Amplitube stuff. I do it all the time on the system in my sig line. I usually record wet, too, rather than leave myself open for changing my mind too much afterward.

And Spikey Horse: I'm glad to see you're liking the plugins!

Good point; I have experimented a lot with latency recently and have definitely verified that I have hit the wall with my current computer, but that didn't necessarily tell me whether I could push the latency down after an upgrade as there are so many factors. Generally I crash during live tracking -- even with all other tracks disabled and all VI's disabled -- unless I set at least to 512 (and for Amplitude I had to go higher still).

It's always refreshing to hear a succinct statement from someone with a more powerful computer, that latency is not an issue for them. What is the lowest you can go now that DP offers all the way down to 64 for buffer size? Traditionally 256 was the choice for overdubs/tracking, and 512 or 1024 even or higher for mixing/etc.

For guitar work, some latency is acceptable, but for bass, one needs near-zero latency. Thus I am curious whether a buffer size of 64 (recently added, if I recall) has been doable for those using Ampeg from IK.

You know what? I had to start up DP just now to check the buffer setting, because I haven't changed it for so long I forgot what it was.
I have it set to 128. I'll try to go lower at some point soon and see what happens, but I've been satisfied with what I've been using.
Sometimes I end up experimenting with various plugins when mixing, and it keeps right on going at the 128 buffer.
Coming from using the G4 Powerbook I used to use, this has been great to not have to constantly change the buffer, or worry about adding guitar parts late in the mix, hoping I could get latency low enough.
I think if you go from your G4 (if I remember right) to a MacPro, you're going to be ecstatic. I'm still amazed at what I can do with this $1100 iMac, even after using it for over a year.

I am amazed that you could even open up another program on your iMac. On mine at work Amplitube Jimi would barely run and that's it. On my G5 it is barely a bleep.

It uses FET modeling and is an analog device. Should prove useful live and in the studio; whereas the NI and IK stuff would more likely be used during production or re-production on revisited material. Not sure the latency could get low enough for live tracking. Maybe if running on Muse Receptor.
One of my all-time favourite devices, Mark.
I've raved about the unit before here, so if you do a search you can check out my lyrical waxing.
I seem to remember suggesting it to CrispChick when he was looking for a fuzz pedal.

In short, I found it extremely useful for many sources and adding beef and welly to dance bass drums etc.
I really miss that unit; I think you'll be happy.
IMHO, it's kinda ingenious. :D

Forgive me if this has been answered already but is there a hard copy involved in any of this? For example, it's stated that when you join you register SVX Uno first then AmpJH and then choose your other plug-in as a download. With that in mind, is the AmpJH sent to you as a hard copy instead of a download?

All are downloads by default - you can specify boxed versions (or rather CD installers in envelopes I think) if you want.

Not 100% sure about that second bit though .... check out the 30 page thread on KVR the info is in there somewhere!

Mine too. Setting up an account on the IK site and getting the downloads was relatively painless, although I still haven't received any information on how to get all the "extra stuff" that is part of the group buy. :?

My understanding from the esoundz kvr forum is that:

-- this X-Gear program is not yet released by IK, but will be available from IK around 3/10-15, and it should appear in our user area in the IK site. Our X-Gear Patches from esoundz (one of the bonuses) sould also appear by that time in our esoundz user area

-- also, we are supposed to send an email to allen @ esoundz . com to request which free WAV Pak we want (the other bonus), and he is to put them in our esoundz user area

Also, you should now have in your esoundz user area the third of the three bonuses -- AmpliGrooves Vol. 1 (they're pretty nice)

[please pardon my self quote from several pages back, but didn't know how to link directly to it and thought copying would be more convenient anyway]

P.S. BillF -- have long loved your avatar, which always makes me smile.

Thanks dbender. I will check out the ezsounds site tomorrow and send Allen an email (although one would think that since they had to send me emails with serial numbers that perhaps that would be a redundant step. But I digress...)

As for my avi, I worry that the little guy is drinking a bit too much. But so far he hasn't fallen off his stool, so if you spot him getting a bit wobbly, let me know and I'll get him some coffee instead of the guinness. :D

I likewise thought it redundant, but sent in my email Friday after reading Squids' post on the kvr forum, and it worked -- got allen's email monday letting me know that the RAW Pak I had specified was now in my esoundz user area. :P

I guess looking back now that the mechanism for us to specify which RAW Pak we wanted was via the email to allen, and I now recall that there wasn't an option when ordering to specify which RAW Pak we wanted (which slightly puzzled me at the time, but shrugged and anxiously rushed to hit the buy button).

This wasn't made clear to me on the Group Buy page, and I only learned it after closely following the kvr forum thread on the Group Buy. :o So I wanted to let my fellow Unicorners learn from my experience, since I had been down the rabbit hole and found my way back.

Anyways, am looking forward to the release of X-Gear from IK and also the patches for it from esoundz. :P

Excuse me, while I kiss the sky........... 8)

P.S. The little dude actually seems ok, and has that contemplative post-work chill-out look and vibe, not a too much beer buzz thing :)

Is anyone else unable to join this group buy?

No matter how many times I try, it times out after 60 seconds when I hit the button to join the group buy.

Firefox and Camino, which are both way faster than Safari, never got past the first page.

Safari eventually gets to the login page, but then times out when I try to create an account.

It works OK here - I got to page 2 straight away after clicking 'join this group buy'.

It closes in a couple of days so make sure to email esoundz if it still won't work by then!
