I don't think it can compete with ANY of your original mods, Andy. That's for sure. However, comparing it to MOTU's official version of DP7, it blows it away, FWIW.

I just don't get it. What's the big attraction to the older versions of DP? I readily admit that it took me a month to get accustomed to DP6, but since then I've NEVER wanted to go back. I don't think the previous version is ugly; not at all. It's just that the new version is really nice. I think it rocks. And the Dood's mods make it incredible. Were I making mods, I wouldn't waste 30 seconds trying to recreate the past, but that's just me, and that's the point: I don't get it.
When DP6 came out, I said at first that I didn't like it, but I added that in a month I'm sure I'll never want to go back. My prediction was spot-on. Within a month I loved it. I look at those old interfaces from the 1980s and 90s, and I wonder how we ever got anything done, and yet I remember loving them back then. And on a 640 x 480 or smaller monitor, no less! But I'm happy as can be with where things have gotten us now, especially with Gold or Jade or Night or.... all those great mods. What's not to like?

I completely agree with ya. It was interesting to get in there and poke around those old files to see exactly how it was done, but I don't think I can take that one to its logical conclusion. I feel like I'm watching Miami Vice when I see the styling that was done up to that point. Moving on!!
Really been digging Sleek, and Tempered is shaping up nicely!
The "ghosted" faders in solo mode is such a great concept, I was wondering if extending that thought to muted faders has come up. Like, in addition to the channel's fader slot not illuminating when muted, maybe the fader becomes blank, or the "light" at the bottom of your faders goes out. Don't know if that is something easily incorporated into future mods. Sorry if this has been brought up in one of the 500+ replies in this thread!
BTW, in the spirit of the holidays, I'm going with your XMas mod until after New Years!

There are so many ideas like this that would be great to do, but can't be done unless MOTU adds the code. The light isn't part of their original design. You basically get two faders, just to show the Solo state of the track.
This is awesome that you are checking these for 6.02/6.03 ! Thank you !
AMPGUI themes - Andy rocks!, 3 macs, MacPro 768GB ram, 16core OS12.7.5, DP11.32, all Waves, all SLATE,PSP, IK multimedia & Audioease plugs, all PAlliance, Softube, most all Orchestral Tools, tons of NI VI's all air Spitfire, all Audiobro, all Berlin, EW PLAY, LLizard, MachFive3, Kontakt5, Omnisphere, RMX, LASS, all Soundtoys, Lexicon AU's, melodyne and others I know am forgetting, cause I'm old...Also mucho outboard rigs, MTPs, DTP, antelope WC, and 4 control surfaces with Raven.
If anyone interested in new features for mods would study the situation just a little, it would save save them some trouble. The Dood is working within very precise confines of what MOTU provided for building their current GUI. It's amazing that he's done so much with so little to work with. In each mod he provides us with a file called DefaultStyle reference which tells us what happens when you change the values of any given line in the text files called Default_Style.xml. Take a look at those, and realize what it takes to change those elements. Whether it be a border, an outline, a beaded ridge, or its shadow, they all have a color setting in those text files. You can change their values, and thus make them a different color or hue in the GUI, but you can't add features or remove them. (Well, you can remove them by making them the same color as their surroundings, but they are still there. )
Then there are the resources which DP's code calls up for any element that moves, or which acts as a background to something that moves. Thus, we have the little folder full of images, and DP's code calls up exactly which image it needs and places it precisely where it belongs on the interface. This method of building interfaces goes back as far as the earliest graphic interfaces for the Mac, and used to be accessible only with a tool called ResEdit, which was very popular among those of us who liked to modify our graphics. I started customizing my splash screens in DP way back there, sometimes adding graphics that MOTU probably wouldn't have approved of, but which I considered restful for my eyes when I'd choose "About Digital Performer." Now, I just add my studio name, and that's that.
Now those elements are easily accessible, as anyone who's installed a mod knows. It's unbelievable that the GUI is so customizable, and so easy to do. It's also important to know that it's easy to screw something up! That's why you always should work on a copy of the original app.
Anyway, it took a lot of work for the Dood to figure out what was changing what, and how far he could go, but anyone with suggestions should instantly be able to tell whether it falls into the "can do" category or the "nope" file. Just take a look at the pictures in the DefaultStyle reference folder, in addition to the images folder, and you'll know what's available to work with.
