KORG Legacy Collection 50% Off
I've seen indications that the sale ends Aug 24, Aug 31 and Dec 31, so I've no idea how long this will go for.
Been waiting since day dot for this to be affordable enough. Saw the same 50% deal, I think, a couple o' years ago, but this time, it's time, methinks.

Only one, obvious question: DP & El Cap 10.11.6?

AIR Instrument Expansion Pack 3 COMPLETE $90
With 70GB+ of content and a bunch of cool instruments and FX, I figured this was crazy enough to share:
http://www.pluginboutique.com/product/1 ... 3-COMPLETE
The list price you see over on the right in the green box is misleading 'cause it's already heavily-discounted. Probably close to $500 RRP.
I'll accept beer but not much else.

Re: KORG Legacy Collection 50% Off
I may never be able to answer that. As of 10.11.6 pre F2014.5 versions of Finale will not run. I just bought the Finale 25 upgrade and I'm not a happy camper. Gone is the movie window (used to score to picture). One goes thru Rewire to DP, use it's movie window and transport, and hop back to Finale to see it scroll the score - which, btw, does not play in Finale. Very convoluted, unreliable, and quite frankly, completely unworkable at present. The Rewire connection also gets "lost." Perhaps because MOTU doesn't use the QTime engine to generate picture? In any event, I am securely stuck at 10.11.5 and that is where the game seems to be ending for me. Getting my work done is far more important than messing up a system, and thus making food and shelter and contraband, unobtainable.monkey man wrote: Only one, obvious question: DP & El Cap 10.11.6?
Over dramatic? Me? Never! Butt seriously, it appears I have updated my last Mac OS unless something changes over at Finale. There are potential options with the Doritos [sic] app being developed, and Sternberg is eternally "in development" on some notation prog. For those of us making a living putting music into print for others to play, this is a critical consideration.

Thank you, Magilla; I was hoping you'd chime in as I know we share a love of the WS and that you bought the KLC years ago.
May I take it then that KLC is fine for you on 10.11.5? Have you used / tested it much?
It was fun reading the Finale story, BTW. I've noticed over the years that you rely on it greatly. Here's an interesting factoid for you: I'm such a goof / non-pro that I don't even know what it is, and yes, I've obviously heard it spoken of for decades; it just didn't loom large on my radar for whatever reason. If it's got anything to do with being able to read music, I'm betting that'd be it.
Anyway, thank you again, and I sure hope KLC's been fine on 10.11.5 for you. If you can confirm this, I'd consider it a small risk for me on 10.11.6 at this price (given the sound!), even 'though your Finale story sure is a disappointing and scary one. I do feel for you, 'Gilla.

The WS as a plugin in DP 9.x works great. Finale is basically DTP for music notation.

Re: KORG Legacy Collection 50% Off
The Korg Legacy Collection is one of the best values in the universe! You get the Korg Wavestation, MS-20, PolySix, Mono/Poly, and M1 complete with all banks (including card banks) they ever came with! $99! Or you can buy individual instruments for $24.95 apiece during this sale.monkey man wrote:I've seen indications that the sale ends Aug 24, Aug 31 and Dec 31, so I've no idea how long this will go for.

One caveat - the additional plugin called "Legacy Cell" that comes when you get the Mono/Poly, MS-20 and PolySix together (which you do, naturally, when you get the whole package) seems to be quite broken. If it worked, all it seems to do is allow you to layer two of those synths together, so it really doesn't do anything that running multiple instances wouldn't allow you to do. But it totally crashes in DP and my other hosts & DAWs for me. No biggie.
Everything else works splendidly, and there are a ton of free banks also available in the download area for you to also play with! (Scroll down a bit on the download page to see them all.)

Despite the email sent by MakeMusic, many of us can run older versions in 10.11.6 including me as long as Human Playback is turned off. Having read that on the support boards, I reinstalled Finale 2011 in 10.11.6 just to see if I could verify this. It works fine for me.MIDI Life Crisis wrote:I may never be able to answer that. Pianoteq 10th Anniversary Sale 30% Off 'til August 31st
I've wanted this since it first came out eons ago, not least because of the ability to tweak it to the mix and also its tiny footprint. I deduced long ago that the big-ass piano-VI thing would merely constant-titty-tute a giant rabbit hole for me.
Figured I'd wait 'til it was offered cheaply. Unfortunately still I can't afford it this time 'round, so I have to ask, is Black Friday a likely option, and also, is it ever offered more-cheaply than this? 30% off sounds OK 'til you consider the fact that the Studio Bundle's still gonna cost around $1000 U$, I think.
Anyway, for those who're in a better financial position than I this time:

Re: Korg Legacy Collection sale
I meant to post this earlier this week, but have been way too busy. Glad someone else found the time.
Just to reiterate, it appears that Korg have now combined the Analog and Digital VI's into a single comprehensive collection, so this suite at $99 (possibly cheaper w/ loyalty discounts at certain sites) is an extreme bargain.
I use Mono/Poly a lot. The others, not so much. But Mono/Poly is something that just always sits well in a mix, whether for lead, bass, pad, or special effect. It also is the closest to the MS2000 series VA architecture, so I was able to port some of my patches from there when I sold my MS2000BR rack.
There are a few M1 sounds that I use a lot, just because they cut through and are the perfect match for certain contexts. The teletype sound is better than any of my foley sources, and the piano works well in a reggae context as it's pretty close to what was used in reggae back in the late 80's to early 90's and it's dry so works well in the bubble context when matched with guitar and organ.

Re: Pianoteq anniversary sale
Ah yes, I knew there was another important sale this week besides the one from Korg, that I didn't find time to post, and the illustrious MM has just mused on its value.
Yesterday, I took advantage of the Pianoteq sale to buy the four add-ons that I didn't own yet (the two historical piano libraries, the new historical harpsichord, and the lovely concert harp add-on).
I had balked earlier at the $59 price tag per add-on, but got it down to roughly half price with loyalty tag-ons. But I don't want to take away from our sponsor, so will say no more on that score. I think most people here would get the same price at most sites, so I recommend patronizing our sponsor.
Of all of the more recent models that have been added to the application, the Concert Harp has impressed me the most. Much to my surprise, it ended up sounding more realistic, human, warm, etc. than my Vienna Instruments library or the also-wonderful Angelic Harp from Orange Tree Samples.
But it's nice to have alternate harp sounds, just as with piano, so I don't consider my eight harp libraries to be redundant.
I never do glissandi on harp; I feel it gave the instrument a bad name the way Lawrence Welk did the accordion. Most seem to judge a harp library by its glissandi, so bear in mind that I am judging mine by how well it does other playing styles involving complex left/right hand playing (not that glissandi are simple to pull off well, mind you).
Out of the other add-ons, I highly recommend the chromatic percussion -- although I have since switched mostly over to new libraries from Soniccouture, Orange Tree Samples, and Spitfire Audio. Interestingly, I always go back to Pianoteq to experiment, and then see if I can match it in the sample-based libraries. I suspect my preference will continue to bounce back and forth.
I forget which acoustic pianos ship with the product and which are add-ons at this point, but can definitely vouch for the latest Steinway model (which I think is part of Pianoteq core). I don't use the Yamaha add-on as much anymore; its ability to cut through the mix is now matched by newer offerings from Pianoteq. But it is indeed a good Yamaha model; better than ANY of my sample libraries.
