Cool; thanks James. The download was quite quick (just a couple of minutes) in spite of the 90 minute estimate that it gave.
I feel it's critical to do a thorough set of backups before the upgrade, regardless of Time Machine and regular project backups, as well as to canvas all potential license issues ahead of time.
I've got too many gigs these next few weeks to be able to start and finish long library backups (which I do less often as they can almost always be re-downloaded if corrupted), until the first of October.
Fortunately, the quarrantine list for High Sierra is empty at this point. The only risk left that I see is with the Adobe perpetual licenses.

Further testing found some low-powered devices (like my USB keyboard) were working on the old hub, while higher-powered items (not hard drives, but my iLok, for instance) or combinations of devices did not work.
My suspicion is that—somehow—the USB ports on my Mac Pro are outputting less voltage under High Sierra than they did under Sierra. Is this possible? I got it fixed, so it may be a bit academic at this point—but it would be interesting to find out.
Any Mac gurus out there (Mike H.) care to weigh in on this?

Hah, I could have sent you mine for free! That's what I was using until the restrictions on number of ports became untenable, but I went back to it while waiting for OWC to replace my from-the-start-faulty Thunderbolt 3 Dock (the replacement unit is 100% flawless).
Sabrent doesn't have the best reputation overall, but that USB dock is probably the best choice available until you start getting into boutique solutions like the OWC stuff. Glad it worked for you.

Initial impressions have been that DP runs equally well or even a little more snappy on my 2013 Mac Pro. Without having timed it, I think projects open a bit faster than they did in Sierra (and I haven't changed my drives or RAM configuration since I migrated). I've opened projects with a dozen or more VIs with multiple plugins on each return, plus audio channels with additional plugs and had no problems opening or playing.
So far, so good.

To review....
1. I discovered that passive (un-powered) USB hubs that were working fine in Sierra don't seem to work at all in HS.
2. Furthermore, a powered USB hub only works somewhat better. Case in point: my iLok works fine plugged into the new, powered hub when I look at it with iLok License Manager and **most** of the licenses are recognized in DP just like before (under Sierra), but a few of them (like MachFive 3 and some Eventide plugs) don't see their iLok licenses until I plug the iLok directly into the back of my Mac Pro.
Go figure.

I’ve had a lot of problems with USB hubs including the issues you describe. The only one that works for me is the Amazon Basics. I bought and returned many before I ordered mine. My concern is that, since it’s a re-brand, I have no idea if the one I bought two years ago is the same one you can buy now.
It would be nice if Apple had some of certification that hub makers could follow so that we would know which ones are truly compatible.

Yes, it would. In lieu of that, I asked a large local Apple dealer who holds a lot of maintenance contracts what to get. They supply a lot of them and have to replace the units that don't work, so they have an opinion. I'd identify the one I got from them a long time back, but it has no branding or other identifiers on it. Anyway, a dealer of that sort should be able suggest something.
