After reading MLC's post I'll be staying away from this update for a while.

Yeah, I'm sorry I took the plunge. It's been a rough evening. As long as I don't use the CW, DP is fine and waiting a minute or two for an internet connection is no big deal. Still, after paying $5k for a machine you expect it to work as advertised.

In the other thread, reinstalling DP 8 fixed most of the issues. It was fine for me but I had to uninstall and reinstall DP 7.24 – again (just about every other OS update for me but I'm used to it and takes a couple of minutes, tops).

Every morning, I reboot and watch my iMac log into 60-80 web sites on two screens. The average time is between 15-30 seconds and today was no different. I timed it this morning: from the boot chime to finish, 73 tabs in two windows of Chrome on two screens took 24 seconds. Before I switched to an SSD, this took 16-22 minutes.

I did get a popup saying that Java wanted to update which I allowed. I then rebooted again with similar results. You might want to check and see if that caused your delay.

My mail server is Yahoo and that took about two minutes as the Mail client needed to rebuild. Interesting… that usually happens only with major updates 10.7 to 10.8 to 10.9 to 10.10. This is the first I remember an incremental update needing to do it.

Have you tried Safari on .3? I'd like to get back to Safari from Chrome, but at the moment it's just too slow.

Safari is running OK on 10.10.3 but as usual, some sites (especially with movies, like YouTube and <ahem> a few others sometimes are slow to load.

Updated to 10.10.3 yesterday on my 2 machines. Both are extremely happy with it so far, even my 1,1 Mac Pro I haven't played with Photos yet, and don't really care for it to be honest. The first thing I wanted to check was DP...If DP's fine, I'll handle the rest . And DP's fine. Actually, I don't have any issue with the OS either, it has worked perfectly from day one for me. From 10.10 to 10.10.3 though, things seem to have been optimized quite nicely in terms of overall performance. Safari flies, and the Finder is faster than the first release (navigation/scrolling/etc).

How'd you get Yosemite on the MacPro1,1? I jumped through hoops and put Mavericks on it, but ended up taking it off when Messenger didn't work. I had wanted to be able to message iPhones with it.

Safari is not optimized for my uses; Chrome is. Weird because Chrome is based on an old 32bit version of Safari. GoogleDocs and SalesForce run much better in Chrome.

I log into a few government sites to search 800+ page .pdf files – Chrome does this in a fraction of a second where FireFox gives me enough time to get a cup of coffee. This morning, Safari tells me that none of my search terms can be found. Useless!

When I have issues with Chrome, I fill out a trouble ticket in Tools. Rarely does it take an hour for resolution. The other thing I like is that you never run an updater. Chrome updates to the latest version every time you start.

I sometimes go back to Safari just to see how it runs. Because Chrome is 32bit, there are some web sites that require later Java run times but that is rare.

Label printing in PayPal works in FireFox only at the moment. Last month it only worked in Safari but yesterday it wouldn't print the bar code on the address label so I switched back to FireFox where it worked again.

I really dislike FireFox but I hate not getting my work done.

Yea... This site works really well in Chrome.

It also works well in Safari over iOS 5.1 on my first gen iPad. I cannot say the same about Safari in iOS 8 –but Chrome works well.

It doesn't seem to be optimized for much at all. When clicking on an email notification for this forum, it takes about 8-10 seconds for Safari to launch and load the post, compared to 1-2 seconds for Chrome. As you say, it's strange given the two browsers are supposedly based on the same code. There's a lot about Chrome I don't like, but life is too short for Safari. I was hoping this update would improve things, but there doesn't seem to be anything useful in it.

Wow, you get email notifications? I haven't gotten one in about 2 years unless someone messages me or picks up a thread that's years old.

No, I NEVER get them. I changed the settings and they just stopped. Doesn't matter, I'm here more than I'm home!

Strange. Have you checked your spam settings with your ISP? Maybe they're getting blocked. Could be Doris, also. She might be miffed at you for not putting her on the guest list for one of your performances.

She is always invited to my midnight comedy show in Hollywood on Saturdays. (Really!) It can be pretty raucous and of late there's been some frontal nudity. Ewwww!
