zuul-studios wrote:I hate to say this, but I'm not getting the solid performance with DP 8.01 and SL (10.68). It sputs and stutters using just four single instances of Native-Instrument's Kontakt 4 (latest version). I don't know if it's DP 8.01 or Kontakt 4. :?: This, of course, is not true with DP 7 which was (is) real solid for me.

Now, when I use Plogue's Bidule, load it up using the exact same set up (with the same instruments using Kontakt 4) and ReWire it back to DP 8.01, all is well. Because of this, I'm thinking that the problem either lies between DP 8.01 & Kontakt 4 or even maybe that my computer is not "strong & new" enough to properly handle DP 8.01. But as evidenced in my signature below, my Early-2009 MacPro 8-core computer with 32 GBs of RAM is no weak machine.

I'm trying to problem-solve this out. I've adjusted all kinds of settings within DP 8.01 as one would normally do and I still get the same sputtering. At this point, I'm waiting for the next DP 8 update. I'm also thinking about farming out my modest fleet of instrumental libraries (especially the ones powered by Kontakt) and use DP 8 with VSL's Ensemble Pro. Actually, my plan is to buy a MacMini i7, load it up with RAM (up to 16 GBs) and use it to house DP 8 and use my MacPro as the "slave computer".

At this point, I need to say that I can load up a 50+ orchestral instrument templet using libraries powered by Aria (GPO, JABB) and Kontakt 4 (Kirk Hunter Strings, Brass and Orchestra) within my "other audio/sequencing program" (noted in signature line) with no issues at all. My current set-up with the "other audio/sequencing program" is solid and reliable (like DP 7). Compared to most of you, this 50+ templet is nothing. So, for whatever reason, I'm thinking that the issue with DP 8.01 lies between it and my MacPro.

To be clear, I really love Digital Performer. I especially enjoy using it for my modest film-scoring stuff (nothing professional, of course). (Before I became a nurse, I studied film composition 30+ years ago and even hold a BM degree with that major! :headbang: I just like saying that I hold a "BM Degree"! :D  A little nursing humor, there. :D ) Using Digital Performer brings me back to the day when I used streamers and punches on the actual film. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, "I ain't feeling the love yet from DP 8.01 back to me".

These are the questions that need answering to help me problem-solve this issue for me: For those who do have stable systems, are you loading up your libraries into DP 8.01 or are you using a slave computer?? Is Kontakt 5 better to use with DP 8.01 than Kontakt 4?? Should I upgrade my Operating System to Mountain Lion??? Are there known issues between the latest version of Kontakt 4 and DP 8.01?? I use two monitors from the MacPro video-card (noted in my signature). Could THIS be an issue?? For those who successfully sequence using DP 8.01 loaded up with many, many VIs, what have you done to make your system reliable???

add more ram!

Ok, ok, I get the message

I just always figured DP couldnt make use of more than 4 gigs anyway, so ya get a couple extra and that'll do it.

If you dont mind me asking, what do you need 24 gigs for?

It was already in my Mac when I bought it used! ;-)
That's why even though I would have prefered an 8core I grabbed this it had 24gig,was and still is in great shape and only cost me $1,100 almost 2 years ago.
If you use programs like Kontakt it's very easy to exceed 4gig of ram.
Realistically do I need 24gig,probably not but it's nice knowing it's there.
I'd say 16gig is probably a decent amount without breaking the bank but of course ymmv.
I say get as much as you can within reason.
2012 Mac Pro 3.46GHz 12 core 96 gig,Mojave, DP11.01,Logic 10.51, RME UCX,Great River ME-1NV,a few microphones,UAD2, Komplete 12U,U-he,Omni & way too many VI's,Synths & FX galore!, Mimic Pro w/ SD3,Focal Twin 6 monitors, Shunyata...........

Because in 64-bit, you can use oodles of RAM for DP. The 4 gig limit is old news.

Actually, now that you've brought it up, I'm trying to come up with $100 to get at least 8 more gigs (Have to buy 10, since I'll have to throw away 2 1-gig sticks to make room)
DP 10.11 MacPro 16-core 3.2 GHZ, 48 Gb Ram, 10.15.2, numerous VIs, etc.
