This is the version of DP I'm waiting for:

Re: DP 8.1 Wishlist
Simple, reasonable wish list. Asking for this makes all the sense in the world, posting it on this website makes all the sense in the world, and posting it simply at the time it comes to mind makes all the sense in the world. Other than the fact that it was perhaps posted in the wrong forum (which any moderator can easily fix) I do not understand the brouhaha in the least.

I love that album. I must have listened to it a million times. A good friend of mine turned me onto it - he thought 'baby's on fire' was about babies.wheever wrote:This is the version of DP I'm waiting for:

anyway, great album.
best (second after the original) version of 'You really got me'.

you are the noise on this board buddy!MIDI Life Crisis wrote:I'l like to see some really robust noise reduction plugin(s), both in DP and on the board.

try izotope! they have that covered! unfortunately it wont wipe dribble from my screen tho

personally I would rather DP was more focused on better editing functions which I cant buy as add ons?
like copy and pasting clips.... If I "pick up" a collection of clips... for instance a door creak and a door slam. then when I paste it down I would like to paste to sync to picture to the door slam - as thats the easiest to see. AFAIK right now I cant do that.
Intelligent break points.. when I move a range of a track to a different track ( for my convenience ) then rather than it reeking havoc on the track 5 mins earlier.. automatic insertion of "safety" break points
this would also be nice if you are reconfirming ( ie resyncing to new video cut - happens waaay to often - right now I have to make one fram snapshots and make sure my automatin prefs are correct... a lot of work that a computer should be able to handle! )

It's so predictable which trolls will resort to personal attacks. No need to mention names, just read this thread as a few have come out to pile on. Misery loves company.
They just don't like anyone walking over their bridges and have to make it personal. It would make a humorous Pyrhon sketch if it wasn't so pathetic. And as a last resort, they often resort to a final 'shut up.'
Mind the trolls.

All is well, folks. MLC, the place wouldn't be the same without your "noise," so don't think twice about it. I do have to agree that there's nothing wrong with posting your wish lists, any time, so that we can keep those ideas flowing. MOTU does pick up on these things now and then, and surprises us with things we forgot we even asked for!
Right now they are hard at work smashing bugs and polishing up DP8 for another release, as they always do right after a big upgrade. I've no doubt that they'll make us very happy even with status-quo, if they just make it work right, and based on their past patterns, I'm pretty sure they'll make it all work great in DP8.1, after which they'll start considering new features and user requests.
Everybody shake hands and make up. You're all good people, and we're ALL lucky to have each other.

Thanks, Shoosh. MN takes up less that 1% of my attention so any of these tiny annoyances are of no significance to me personally. It is interesting, however, to see people resorting to personal attacks when a general comment is breached; it reveals their Achilles Heel.

No specifics here, I just wish they'd focus on MIDI a little more next go-around, make the editing even more streamline like audio. I think their audio editing is perfect, no need to change it.
Although, here's one old wish that probably will never get fulfilled: bezier curve handles on automation data, and translation of recorded automation into bezier. And even better: MIDI data on bezier curves! What a dream!

For composing and/or improvising I want to see a chord symbols window that scrolls to the sequence, plus variable look ahead.

Re: DP 8.1 Wishlist
I'm nuts about bezier curves. I love the control it gives. And I don't think the freehand in DP's MIDI and Automation tools is easy to use, though it's forgiving; backtrack and it backtracks with you. So I'm in agreement that a new implementation of all their curves would be ideal, and it's hard to beat Bezier when you're moving up. But Bezier may not be the best route for freehand. I don't know. i'm just looking at simplicity and "get-er-done" speed. If the freehand could become a little smoother and easier to use (it's not like we're trying to draw bifurcating fractal curves here) while giving us Bezier control, I'd love that.Prime Mover wrote:Although, here's one old wish that probably will never get fulfilled: bezier curve handles on automation data, and translation of recorded automation into bezier. Makers "folders" / grouping please. Being able to group makers like Setting up a group/folder for song structure. Set a group markers as "for editing" and so on, and be able to turn on/off all marker and the individual groups.
Analog is great... We got both WOW and Flutter - what's your bias?

Variable early page turns in the quickscribe window. It drives me crazy that playback is often a couple of beats or more into the new page by the time the new page is displayed.

Re: DP 8.1 Wishlist
Problem is, I just don't like freehand. I've never considered myself a "run and gun" sort of guy. Similarly, I never do real-time automation anymore, because I'm such a perfectionist, I spend more time correcting the automation then if I just went in and did it manually. It's my problem, I know it's not right, but it's just the way I'm wired.Shooshie wrote:I'm nuts about bezier curves. I love the control it gives. Also, I'm a graphic design guy, if you hadn't gotten already gotten the picture, even though I'm a video producer, I'm mostly a motion graphics guy, which is ALL about keyframe automation and bezier curves. And ya know what? I'm a wiz at it, if I do say so myself! Give me a graph and the ability to create nodes and curves, and I'll give you precise automation in less time then it takes to play through the selection. Unfortunately, DPs automation philosophy is more like raster graphics (even though it's not), it's like using a paint tool instead of a pen tool. I'm just uncomfortable with that. My coordination isn't that precise, I don't know exactly what the values are (the info readout lies a little), it's just not the way I like to do things.
But here's the thing, add in the ability to use bezier curves, and it won't effect anyone else's workflow either. Run and gun with freehand and forget they exist, they're only there when you tell them to. It just bothers me when I draw a fade, and think "Gee, I wish it was exponential instead of linear", instead of just curving the existing interpolation, I have to completely redraw the entire transition, end points and all! That just seems downright medieval to me. Not sure what Pro Tools, Logic, or Cubase are doing, but I do remember Sonar having some rudimentary bezier functions. I think it sorta worked like the DPs curve tool, but it was on all the time for everything, you just drag a line, and it curves depending upon how you're dragging it... kinda rudimentary, not exactly After Effects, but pretty nice never-the-less.
Also, may I remind you that while precision may not be absolutely necessary with simple volume automation, there are some situations where super PRECISE automation is vital. Hit an effects automation end-point incorrectly, and you could get a very different sound... sometimes raw math is the only way you can accomplish something.
Then there's MIDI data... don't get me started.
