Re: PCIe 424 + Thunderbolt adapter?
Any update on the PCIe-424 / Thunderbolt situation at all?
That new Mac Pro release date is just around the corner and things are looking a little grim for MOTU users.
Thanks for any news.

Only grim for those MOTU PCI users that plan to get a new MacPro immediately. I don't know anybody like that.Trailerman wrote:That new Mac Pro release date is just around the corner and things are looking a little grim for MOTU users.

I'm sure there are quite a few of us who need to replace their old towers ASAP. I'm in that camp, with an old tower that's a ticking time bomb.

Re: PCIe 424 + Thunderbolt adapter?
Cool. There's two. I'd suggest waiting a little while before getting out on the cutting edge. Me, I don't have one of those Macs that suddenly ceases to function the day the newest MacPro drops.

Re: PCIe 424 + Thunderbolt adapter?
I guess I'm sort of #3. I've been waiting several years to upgrade a PPC machine. Not looking forward to tossing my PCI hardware.

Re: PCIe 424 + Thunderbolt adapter?
I don't think it hurts to raise a support ticket and ask the question direct. At least that way MOTU know that there's interest in chassis support.

I've used the suggestion box. I don't have anything with thunderbolt yet, so nothing concrete to ask support.

Re: PCIe 424 + Thunderbolt adapter?
Hello
I'm waiting too for a Thunderbolt solution for my 2408MKII + MKI + 1228.
To EMRR: Can't find the suggestion box. Do you have a link?
Best regards

Re: PCIe 424 + Thunderbolt adapter?
oh dear oh dear!!!!
the build up/back log of 424/thunderbolt constipation shite is about to hit the fan!!
After a good few years of amassing my dream surround stem mixing rig of 3 24 ios and a 192
along with a quad and solo uad 2 system its time to shite out my despair!!!
I have just received a tech note update from uaudio.
My uad-2 cards are not compatible with the new mac pro pcie architecture - apparently now has to be capable of recognising 36 addresses as apposed to the previous 12!!
This for me is really crap news, coupled with the crappy bang for buck of a new mac pro and thunderbolt chassis!
I,ve all but given up on the dream of a mac pro/notebook logic rig and 424/uad compatibility!
No news from motu either on the 424 -grrrr!! This doesn,t bode good!!!
Logic seems to be dropping behind as well!!
well its hackintosh/logic, but more likely DP8 or cubase(arghhh!!) on a windows 7 rig from now on!!
Bollocks to apple!! - i,ve run out of loyalty now!!
Bye Bye apple, Bye Bye logic!!
I,ve no hope left on this topic!!!
Adios
edit/psssss
I,m fortunate enough to build my own/clone outboard gear so i can mix out of the box - guess where all my future monies are going - hahahaha - no computer updates required!!!
pp sssss
could be a good business opportunity here!!

Re: PCIe 424 + Thunderbolt adapter?
Hi
At the moment it is only not compatible with the new mac pro.
Maybe future apple mashines will be too not compatible with old PCIe cards and a thunderbolt-chassis.
I wish I could use my MOTU PCIe-424 mobile, so I don't have to take the whole computer with me to record gigs with my DM-24.
regards

Re: PCIe 424 + Thunderbolt adapter?
UAD still touts FireWire as cutting edge. Apple has not supported the full FW spec since the PPC. On machines with Thunderbolt, FW has been nonexistent unless an adapter or monitor that supports a small part of the FW spec is purchased - I include the 2011 iMac (read the specs if you don't believe me).
It's really time to stop blaming Apple because UAD has refused to keep up. Putting a TB adapter on their Apollo interface is a start. Time for them to come up with a TB-PCI rack for their cards, I would think. They have had three years to work on this.
As fo outdated gear, it happens. I just realized I haven't used any of my outboard MIDI gear since I moved to my current house in 2004. I have a basement full of analog tape gear that cost a lot more than the most outlandish PCI rack, I promise. Oh yea, I still have my 2408 somewhere. Maybe it's time to sell some of that gear.
