Multi-eyeballed Husky is probably right, although portability opens up HUGE frontiers for me.
I wonder if a 2.8GHz dual core i7 MacBook Pro w 8G of RAM would leave me wanting more juice. Right now, I'm getting by w my old 1.8GHz dual proc PowerMac w 4G RAM. Surely, the performance difference would be great, but...
What about hard drives? This comes stock with a 5,400 RPM (too slow?) and I've always used separate drives for apps vs. music files. Is that going to be a problem?

If it does, then get a laptop. I use an old dual 2.4ghz macbook pro for everything. It's only recently that I've decided that the next computer I buy will be a desktop. My requirements RAM and CPU wise live aren't that great, the exception being that a recently purchased Kirk Hunter Concert Strings Kontakt sample set maxs out my RAM quickly, and I have the maximum for this laptop, also in the studio I'm starting to max out the CPU during the mixing phase.. This will be the first time in ages that I don't sell the mac I have now after buying the new one.Todzilla wrote:Multi-eyeballed Husky is probably right, although portability opens up HUGE frontiers for me.

Re: if you had $1500 to get a Mac
So I am getting ready to make the move to a used Mac pro or New iMac. I have bunch of plug-ins(see Sig) and wonder if you see any concerns about compatibility in Snow Leopard or if I have to Lion? I would prefer SL. I wonder if that is even possible on a new iMac? My budget is about the same. Right now DP will be $195. and Sibelius will be $149 on top of that. If I go to the Mac Pro I will need a monitor. Any recommendations? Would you advise Plogue Bidule as most of my work will now be Symphonic? I don't need any heels as I once met Imelda Marcos's cousin's chauffeur. Thanks
