I went on kellys site and did not see a RTZ button in any of his screen shots either...?? the plot thickens...

Kelly? You mean Colin, right? We're talking about the AC-7 Pro for the iPad, not AC-7 for iPhone and we're talking about the APP... not the iPad itself. The exactly location of these buttons will very depending on the physical orientation of the iPad itself. It's NEAR the jog wheel in the "Transport" group of buttons. See below:

I figured it out. 1. you have to make sure "Mode" is set to DP...which I did, but only AFTER I opened the app...then you have to close the app and re-open it to get the screenshot with the RTZ button.and the actual DP layout..anyway..that's all good, thanks James

Once you select the DP mode, you should see those buttons... you shouldn't need to close and reopen it. The only mode where those buttons don't show that I'm aware is the Pro Tools mode. Also make sure you update to 1.01 from the App Store.

Nope... that should be the latest version. Didn't realize the Logic mode didn't have RTZ. If you go the App Store on your iPad and it doesn't say that you need to install a newer version than you're good to go.

Just an update: Since I got the Mac Pro, I've also had to use the method where my Mac is connected via Ethernet to my wireless router and the iPad connecting to my local wireless network. I can tell just with messing with AC-7 Pro tonight that this is not working as well as it did with my G5 that had the AirPort Extreme card in it. The best experience with this app is to have a direct wireless connection between the Mac and the iPad.

I ended up ordering an AirPort Extreme card for this Mac Pro. I found a pretty good deal online here:

http://www.macproonline.com/Apple-AirPo ... 36018.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also, found a link to instructions on installation here:

http://meanderingpassage.com/2007/07/18 ... l-mac-pro/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I also found the thread in PDF format online, but the URL was so nightmarish and error prone that phpBB, bit.ly and tinyurl.com all refused to deal with it, so I had to rename it and then upload it to the MOTUNATION server:

http://motunation.com/files/Installing_ ... c_Pro..pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I must say after using it a bit tonight with the Mac Pro, I have to stand by what I said before, and that is that until Colin can perhaps develop a Server app on the Mac that has some sort of error checking (which DSMIDIWiFi lacks), an AirPort Extreme card in the Mac is still the only truly reliable way to go.

Thank you SO much for this fantastic tutorial!

My only remaining issue (using a non-Airport equipped Mac Pro and connecting via a wireless router) is that track names aren't showing up. Everything else is working flawlessly. I'm using DP-AC7-DSMidiWifi-Bridge version 1.0, DSMidiWifi 1.01, and DP 7.12.

Thank you again!

I am totaly confused..lol. My I-pad was not connected through a wireless router when it works...it is communicating directly with my mac..?? I bought this mac second hand so maybe it has a airport extreme card already in it..it is a early 2009 model. The I-pad seems to work well from what little bit I have used it....keep us posted..!!

OK...count me in...I have the iPad working pretty well. I am just using my home wireless network and it seems to be fine. Perhaps some latency, but nothing I can't live with. My use is that of a one-man production team, and when I am in the other room recording, I thought the remote control surface would be very nice (instead of using a second keyboard and peering through the window at the DP Counter, etc).

It looks like it will work well...however I am a little confused due to the lack of a manual that explains what all these buttons do. I have never used a control surface before, and it is not making sense in some places. The Mackie Control PDF in the Help menu of DP helps a little but does not correlate exactly.

And as mentioned in other posts, some of the buttons don't light up, etc...all part of being on the cutting edge I suppose.

But I must say, this concept is BRILLIANT. I am hoping they do a B3 Organ Drawboard Controller as well! This app could really go places...

Cheers!

I hear you Randy! There's still some work to be done. If you find problems, and no doubt you will, I'm sure Colin at Saitara would love to get your input. Rather than post his email here, you can find his support email address at his website:

http://saitarasoftware.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have no background with the Mackie Control either and agree that the MOTU PDF isn't adequate to cover everything. Also some things don't work as described in the PDF. I do know from my frequent communication with Colin that he is working hard on it. He does have DP, Logic, and PT to contend with, so there's a lot on his plate. I know he's working on an improved measure display, etc. I sent him mockups of a suggestion that he liked and he said he was going to incorporate it into the next version... it should look a little like this:

OLD VERSION:
Image
(Pay no attention to "90" at beginning-- that's issue connected with negative measure number start times and should be fixed soon)

NEW VERSION:

ALSO:
Image
(Frames not shown as they'd be highly inaccurate and consume huge bandwidth to update in realtime)

cloudsplitter... when you post messages with a quote, please check that your Options below the message editing window do not have "Disable BBCode" checked. This is why your quoted text does not show up as a quote, but shows the literal quote tags. I have been going around and fixing this for you and some others, by editing your message and simply checking that box and re-submitting it, but it would be better if you could check your settings and make sure you enable those codes.

No worries. To fix it:

1. Go into your User Control Panel
2. Click the Board Preferences tab
3. Click "Edit posting defaults" to the left
4. Set "Enable BBCode by default:" to "Yes"

You'll never have to think about that again. :D

Oh... as for the PDF... very cool! Thanks for sharing! Great work!! :D I'm sure many of these functions may not be working with AC-7 Pro yet. I have yet to really delve into it and I'm going to be out of town on a mini vacation in Arizona for a day or two, so maybe when I get back. Problem is, until my AirPort Extreme card arrives, my luck with going through my router isn't that great... not nearly as good as when I was using my G5 that had an AirPort Extreme card and I used Internet Sharing to connect.

PS: I emailed Colin a copy of your cheat sheet. It my help him with testing DP.
