Anyway, I went to go see them- they had Steve Vai playing with them at this point, I don't recall which terrible album they were supporting, but it was in whatever would pass as the heyday for those guys.

That sounds like around the time that a friend of mine was playing in a band with Vai's wife (or it could have been his fiancé or ex at that point). Anyway she has some pretty amazing war stories about Whitesnake.

Hilarious and great story. I don't even KNOW the band Whitesnake, but now I feel that I do, without ever having heard a note. (maybe your story is the best way to get to know them)

And maybe that keyboardist was the one responsible for the decision not to be seen on stage. "Ah…. sure… I'll go on tour with you. Double the lead-singer's salary, and I play under the stage where NOBODY sees me. Deal?"

Yeah... still if I had a penny for every penny somebody was getting in royalties for "Is This Love?", I wouldn't complain. But then I like that sort of music... minus the bass humping of course.
