I will try the suggested procedures as soon as I get back to my studio...But shouldn't DP just work correctly even with all those things ON? Geez...It's 2010 and the computer's power should be more than enough to handle this simple task...I thought there was something I can fix in terms of the overall setup...such as buffers, etc...without having to turn off bunch of necessary functions...

I just realized that my computer is having some serious problems with Spotlight...where Spotlight won't stop indexing...Which slows down all apps, etc. I'm thinking this might be the cause of the note skips...I will try turning Spotlight indexing off and try again...I gotta get this thing fixed ASAP...

let me know how that goes. I have heard over the years that spotlight can cause problems. It is not so easy just turn the whole app off however. Can you just disable the indexing part...

I'd have to open DP to check things like Prime Seconds and so on, but those kinds of settings may be a factor in jayce's problem. Can't rule anything out.

That does make me wonder what Jayce has set his buffer to, how many busses he's got set, how many tracks, what 3rd party plugins/VI's are loaded, and just all the settings.
I tried Smart Selection OFF, Event Chasing ON, MIDI resolution at 480, CC ramp res at 5 ticks...and still the same thing...

I also disabled Spotlight indexing...and the same problem exists...

Right now I'm using Traveler mk3 with Buffer Size: 512, Host Buffer Multiplier: 1, Work Priority: Low...and Studio Settings are left with default settings...with Stereo Busses: 32, Prime Seconds: 2.50, Work Quanta: 100, Max Work Percent: 80%, Auto Plug-in Latency Compensation: ON, Pre-fill file buffers to Quick Start: 0.40 sec.

Right now, I'm testing with MOTU Audio System ON...with no plug-ins loaded...and just playing 1 external MIDI device...Akai S5000 Sampler...and the notes still skip...

Please keep in mind...this is only happening when "Wait for note" is ON...

Ok...I did a fresh reinstall of everything on my Macbook Pro...I got the Spotlight to work okay now...but the note skips and jumps are still there...Strange thing is I tried installing DP7 on my older Macbook 1.1 and it had the same problem...I'm pretty much tapped out. I've tried just about everything...Any suggestions? I thought it may be an issue with MIDI buffer...I could be wrong but I have no idea where to change the settings for MIDI buffer...

Is anybody working with 13" Macbook Pro successfully? If so, what are some of the settings...

I agree that it might be a MIDI buffer thing, somehow related to the OSX core audio/MIDI setup. But since many people do not have this problme there is some other piece of the puzzle that no one has yet to figure out. Maybe its having a certain combination of synths, other app on the computer, who the heck knows.

My problems with this began the day I switched from OS9 to OSX.....In fact I had both systems on my computer for awhile and I would go back to OS9 when I got tired os sticking and random notes.

This was a big jump for me in terms of upgrade. I went from DP3 to DP7...and I guess this is the first time I went from OS9 on DP to using OSX for the first time. I never had this problem on my DP3, OS9 setup. However, I did have ton of other problems with that setup which got me to upgrade...like crashing every few minutes, etc. I was using a G4 433mhz dual (using only single processor with OS9). My current Macbook Pro should be thousand times faster...yet has problems with a simple task of playing back MIDI notes. It makes no sense to me. Are there any other suggestions on what to try? Also, are there anyone using DP7.11 and 13" Macbook Pro successfully?

I went to 7.11 and now 7.12 and this problem still exists on my system. I have not had a single day of normal use on my DP system since I upgraded from DP3...This is truly frustrating!!!

Lets try again to see if we have something in common in our systems that would give us both issues.

Here are my old synths attached to DP through an MTP AV:
Proteus 2
Korg Triton
Roland 5080

controller is Kurzveil PC3

every other instrument is virtual or sample based.

The only non music apps I have are toast and fetch.

Does any of this match up with your set-up?

Turn Wait for Note off? :)

Maybe it's a bug with wait for note? I'll have to try that as I don't think I've EVER turned this on.

Seems to be some kind of buffer issue since even the audio seems to fade in...instead of starting dead on beat. Somehow MIDI does the same thing. I've been using "wait for note" religiously since Performer V2.0 (before Digital Performer) back in the late 80s...My workflow definitely suffers without it...Just curious, how do you typically do MIDI sequencing without "wait for note"?

Yeah- I do not have any idea how someone doing any kind of film scoring can function without wait for note. But If there is a way to make sure cues start in exactly the right spot and not use wait for note I would love to know what that is!

I also think it might be a MIDI buffer/OSX core MIDI related thing. I also still get random notes playing as well, sometimes even when DP is not even playing- just sitting there.

I guess that's just because I don't really do any film scoring.

I may misunderstand what Wait for Note is. I thought basically it just starts recording or something when you play a note. I just keep DP in "overdub" mode (non destructive record) and start recording a few measures before. I guess I misunderstand what this is useful for.

if you are not using MIDI tracks then it is much less needed. But if you are using MIDI/virtual instrument tracks it is the easiest (only?) way to make sure all your tracks start in exactly the same place throughout a score.

I will have to get the manual out and look at it. I just make sure MIDI tracks start at the same place by playing them at the same place. Doesn't Wait for Note simply start recording when a note is played? I just start recording manually with a couple bars before where I want to start recording. I guess I'm missing something.
