Re: 7.1, a different animal.
I have noticed two issues: one is (I believe) a real bug; the other I have not fully troubleshot and may have to do with VIs.
One little bug that I have been able to repeat is if I close a project with overdub record active, when I reopen it, the button state stays the same (it is active), but it does not overdub if I try to record - it works as if the button is not pressed. Cycling the overdub button resolves the problem. All I can say is thank goodness for undo history
I frequently get a momentary freeze followed by beachballs - I can almost predict it happening. If I do any MIDI editing, where I am stopping/editing/rewinding/replaying, I have to wait a lot. I assume that there some background processing going on, or maybe some pre-rendering activity. I haven't gotten around to disabling one or the other to check to be honest. I have plenty of RAM and a relatively fast system, so I did not expect this behavior. The system does not crash, but it is slow.
I have a few EWQL Play VIs, and am aware that the most recent version of Play has not been certified with Snow Leopard, so this may be part of the problem. I will eventually check to see if this makes a difference, but I love the sounds of those VIs, so its worth the hassle for what I am doing.

Re: 7.1, a different animal.
Well you just know I had to chime in here, because FWIW, DrumCore 3 has been working absolutely fine for me. Go figure. I only mention it because I see so many threads where this plug or that plug is named and "publicized" as the culprit, when it works fine for someone else. Weird.
So FWIW. lest there's someone out there who was thinking of buying DC3 and now is having doubts that some aren't having problems. FYI, I have no affiliation with Sonoma Wire Works (new owners of Drumcore), just think it's a good plug.

That's exactly why I started this thread. I'm hoping to get enough clues to make some sense of this and compile some good info to send to MOTU, or at the very least find some workarounds to post here. Thanks to everyone for their input!James Steele wrote:I only mention it because I see so many threads where this plug or that plug is named and "publicized" as the culprit, when it works fine for someone else. Precisely. Maybe there needs to be some generic disclaimer we can cut and paste ala "Things are only working together incorrectly on MY system and it's NOBODY's fault" to avoid typing it each time.Phil O wrote:That's exactly why I started this thread. I don't think we've been trying to condemn any plug or program. We're just trying to get some information here. Drumcore 3 is indeed a great plug, DP7.1 is a great program. But on MY system I've run into that little weird problem. I've used that very word 'weird' several times because the program will run smoothly as always (never a problem in the past couple years on 6.02) on MY system until I hit the rewind button.
Perhaps it might be better if I/we said, "Program X crashes on rewind- what do you think would cause this?". I'm not being facetious, perhaps it would be better- but then, there might be people using the same program who had the same problem and we might be able to cut to the chase a little quicker. Maybe it's ONLY on my system, maybe it's not.
Certainly it's unfortunate if there are intimations of slander of a given program when one is encountering difficulties, that's certainly not the intent.
We're just trying to get a little information here, dealing with real world problems in the course of using several great programs simultaneously.

Re: 7.1, a different animal.
Well, not much to report. Things have been better at my end since installing the latest FW driver (ask Radio Gal about this). It doesn't make sense on my system, but I ain't complaining. I have confirmed a couple of reproducible bugs I'll be reporting to MOTU, and at the very least, this thread was worth it for that. Thanks to all who have contributed!

Re: 7.1, a different animal.
I have had this font problem for a couple of versions.Phil O wrote:Wow. There have been a lot of heated discussions over DP7.1. I thought I'd start a thread for serious troubleshooting......
.... My hope is that if people report what they've found we can begin to tame this animal.....
Here's what I've found so far:
-> After initially installing 7.1 I found that the new Markers display in the Control Panel wasn't working. Clicking on a marker would cause an error message. It turns out that DP requires the installation of the font "Verdana." With it turned off, DP halts with a system error message. Turning on Verdana in Font book solved the problem.....
Please post your findings.
Phil
I go to font book it says it IS there AND turned on, but it doesn't recognized it.
IS there a known location to find a 'different' Verdana font that would be happier?
This is very annoying, to have from System 7.1 through 7.24
Next. Is there a known minimum rev for Stylus RMX for use with DP.
I tried 1.6 for a session and it broke DP. I had to do a complete reinstall from 7.2 disc
and it's not always happy going up to 7.2.4 now. Partly the Verdana issue again.
But also in Force quit DP comes up TWICE, and sometimes versions alternates between 'redded' Not Responding and 'black' just sitting. Curious thing is, looking with terminal and processes windows, one version is around 60 mb and the other only 10mb. SO for some reason it is reaching out to an old version, even though it was a disc uninstall.
Any comments? All welcomed. I go to search Verdana.

Re: 7.1, a different animal.
Veranda - and many other fonts - can cause problems if more than copy is enabled. Since Veranda is also installed with Office, it is a common duplicate.
10.5,6 & 7 each handle this a little differently: Open Font Book.
Any font family with duplicates will show up with a black dot or a triangle. In 10.5, you have to click on the font to resolve duplicates under the Edit Menu. In 10.6/7, you can resolve all at once. You can disable duplicates globally or delete duplicates individually (or both).
You want Veranda etc to be in the system, not the user library. Click Show In Finder, then do a Get Info - this will tell you where each copy resides.
Under the File menu, you can now validate each font individually.
Disabling duplicate fonts not only fixes problems in DP but will make Office run faster and solves problems for Finale users. I imagine that other programs are also affected.

Re: 7.1, a different animal.
Ok thanks that solved the font issue.
The duplicate versions hang is still happening in 7.2 I have 7.24 but an disinclined to go through the install process again before resolving this hang issue.
Nice bass in you avatar.
What is it/ I play a Fodera, and that's not one.
