I saw the demo today by Dave Roberts (is that the Magic Dave?). He said the update will be released next week possibly Monday.
DP7*, Mac Pro Quad 2.66GHz, 12GB RAM, MOTU 828mk3, Mac OS 10.6*
* Bleeding edge updater--if it's released, I've updated, and bled.

Yeah... He said to check motu's site for it on Monday.

The auto save is cool! Choice of regular save, or save a copy.
Tuner plugin is cool.
Automation trim tool looks way cool too!
Still no channel selection in the mix window.

I am very excited about DP7.1, and I'm especially pleased to see MOTU working hard to take DP closer and closer to perfection :)

I suppose I'll wait till monday and see, but usually, the apps that use Auto-Save... are they smart? Smart as in not trying to save when one is in the middle of a recording, or anything that might disturb the workflow?
Or will it save at a chosen time interval, regardless of what you are doing?

Certainly this can be a double-edged knife for the user of a regular Apple / S or Save !

What I saw in the DP 7.1 demo with auto-save was a window with some options opens, such as "save every _ minutes" so you can tell it when to save, and I think there was an option to save when not running DP (ie when you hit the stop button, so it won't try to save while recording etc)

They never are. Normally, the wait for new product between NAMM and release is months.

If Magic Dave said "next week", it's hard not to put some credence in his assertion in this case despite what has been the case in the past. Dave wouldn't say it unless he meant it or even were allowed to say it.

Not my experience as I can recollect. If they show the new version at NAMM, it will be out very shortly. I'm at NAMM right now and based on my talks with MOTU folks, I have no doubt it will be out not long after NAMM. Probably within a week after the show is over if I had to take a guess.

This is all very exciting.

I'm happy for the 7.1 and also for the sign that the company is in good fiscal health in these dark economic times. Software updates are as good a thermometer as any other.

Sure, the new features are interesting, but what I really want to know is... will it stop CRASHING?

"Auto-save" is a workaround, but it's not a solution. I've been with MOTU since DP 2.5, and ever since I transitioned to OS X, I've been very frustrated with this DAW. DP7.02 crashes several times a session. I've seen crashes ever since I upgraded to OS X from my trusty old DP 3.1 on OS 9. It's irritating as hell.

So what I really want to know is... has MOTU addressed the stability of their software? I guess I'll find out when I download the update.

Internal HD (7200 RPM Hitachi Travelstar 320 GB)
