An easier way to get to it is to press the option key while clicking the sequence name in the upper right corner of the mix window. You get a pull down from there instead of from the mini-menu. Don't think there are any key commands as this is a flexible menu.Originally posted by Schweats:

Re: Share your favorite DP tip!
I don't know if this happens to all of you?Arrrggghhh!!!!:
OK, does this drive any of you FREAKIN' nuts?
If I'm in the tracks window and I double click on an audio region I expect the edit window to open exactly on the file I've selected-but no it doesn't. I'm directed to the top (control track) of the (sequence) edit window, sometimes not even in the same measure I've double clicked. I'll have to zoom out then go find the highlighted soundbite. Same thing is true for going to edit MIDI reigions following the above emntioned technique.
Here's another pisser (from the Consolodated window)-If I select/highlight a MIDI region I want to edit in the Tracks Window and from the consolodated window hit the MIDI tab; I would assume and expect I'm about to be directed to the area I've just highlighted. But no... I'm always taken to the top most MIDI track in the list. I have to then choose (again) from the MIDI track list at the left of the MIDI window the MIDI track I originally wanted to edit, unchoose the MIDI track I was taken to, and (again) go find the MIDI region I had originally highlighted, zoom in with the magnifying glass, etc. Now, let's say I leave the the MIDI window, go back to tracks window, find another region on the exact same track-I go back to the MIDI window, I would expect the same track to still be selected and zoomed in just the way I left it. But NO!!! I have to go through the whole routine again & again, re-zoom blah, blah.....
MAN this pisses me. I waste more time going through this crap.
I hope all that made sense?
If any of ya's have been fighting these same issues and know of any preference or settings (I've looked) that can take me to where I think I should be going....
PLEASE SHARE
Still a great forum-I'm just blowing steam.
Cheers

OMG...I thought I was the only one that was annoyed of this problem...I posted this once with no replies. Well, I emailed MOTU and they said that it was fixed in 4.52...but I'm still in 4.5. But if you're in 4.52 and still have this problem...thenOriginally posted by julio ugliass:

As for the consolidated window thing...I haven't tried that yet so I can't comment on that.
Re: Share your favorite DP tip!
I think it can come in handy, depending on what you are doing. It's easy enough to set up a few window sets the way you like. I bet you could even assign hot keys to your window sets.Originally posted by James Murphy:

Oh, Listened to 2 of your mixes last night, BTW. MY GOD, how did you get it sounding so LOUDDDDD? That was insane. Really nice job on that heavy stuff.
Re: Share your favorite DP tip!
I have mixed feelings about it and use it but in combination with other "free" windows. I keep the Sequence editor and Mixer window separate and leave the Tracks window in the CW. In the sidebar I keep the Performance window, Markers, Soundbites window and Undo History. When I need it, I open the Conductor track and the Audio Monitor in the left sidebar. Bottomline... my main windows, which are usually larger than the others, I keep separate and leave a visible corner at all times so I can access them with a click.Originally posted by James Murphy:

Re: Share your favorite DP tip!
No, actually I'm one of the ones who trashed the very idea of a Consolidated Window, and said I'm set in my ways and would never use it. Guess what I use 90% of the time! You guessed it. The Consolidated Window. I have about a dozen configurations of it saved, which pop up at a keystroke. (I use QuicKeys, which gives me more options for keystrokes even than DP)Originally posted by James Murphy:

Plus, I still have some configurations that do not use it. Just because it's turned on doesn't mean you have to use it all the time.
What I like most about it is that I can go from chunk-to-chunk easily, just by turning on a new chunk, and will already have the exact same layout in front of me for that chunk. That was impossible before. I switch between consolidated and free windows easily using Apple's Exposé, which I have configured for the left side of the keyboard, so that I don't have to move my hand from the mouse. Exposé rocks! So do Consolidated Windows and QuicKeys.
And there are some of my favorite tips imbedded in the above few paragraphs, for those whose ears are open.

Re: Share your favorite DP tip!
Or use QuicKeys. You can do almost anything in QuicKeys with a mere keystroke. It's the most powerful tool in the DP aresenal. Too bad you have to buy it separately, but it's worth it.Originally posted by blue:

Highlight a bunch of track names in the track window, hit option + A and you can simultaneously chnage the inputs and outputs of multiple tracks all at once.

Re: Share your favorite DP tip!
When you double click on a track to open waveforms, DP should open the waveforms window revealing the same track in the middle of the others around it so we don't have to rescroll. This should be the way it works.
There are many issues like this that, for some reason, MOTU doesn't seem to feel it's important to address or maybe can't figure out a way to do it without mega C++ +++code additions.

Re: Share your favorite DP tip!
I'll repost my tip here to help with that. In the Commands Window, go to the Navigation section. The very last command in that group is my secret DP weapon that noone ever seems to know about or use..."View Selection in Sequence Editor". Reassign the keystroke of that command to something that a human being could actually do on a regular basis. I personally use "S" for it, since I've never used the "Scrub" tool even once in my life. Now highligt a track or section of tracks in the Tracks Overview, and hit your new magic key. HAPPINESS!!!!

PS: is anyone making a consolidated list of these, with boldfaced headings for each tip, organized by category? (hint, hint...) I guess if nobody else does it, I'll get around to it some day. This would make an excellent FAQ for a permanent location somewhere.
