good news, bad news.. You can read my story up in this thread... tonight, trying out the new 6.02 update, at about my normal time to see an error on a track, DP gives me a brand new pop-over warning that says a recording error occured ( I think it's error -224) and asks to stop playback. Sure enough if I zoom in far enough when the error message first appeared, I see the random noise on the newly recorded track. The error message suggests that it's a problem getting so much data on and off the disk at once.. I know the SATA drive is good and can handle much much more than I'm slinging at it, so it has to be some sort of buss/throughput problem.. It's the computer.. At least I know the problem now. I have an 8 core 3G arriving Tuesday, we'll see how that works.. Thanks to everyone that tried to help! BTW I love the new markers drop down by the time display in the control panel... nice..

I think you need to replace your logic board.
I get the noise now and then, pops, audio stopping & starting.
I finally narrowed it down to the firewire cards in my Mac when my firewire drives disappeared from my desktop.
USB still works. All threads point to a bad logic board. Apparently this problem was common in the G5 according to threads.
I'm looking for a place that will repair, not replace it. Read a thread it might not be worth it - next the power supply, etc.
A logic board is around $800.

Just curious, mrgkeys: Could it have been the case that your older drive was too full?

nope... a couple hundred gigs left. I tried it with a couple of different drives too. I took the very same drive out of the G5 and into the new Intel machine and never looked back. I just finished a 5 day session with no problems, 24 tracks, 24 bit, 96k, about 6 hours of actual 24 track audio (we do a lot of takes
).. not many overdubs, but some, all without any problems at all. Overdubs on the same projects that were causing problems too. Again, no problems. Used Network MIDI a couple of days too, linking up to my Macbook using the 2nd ethernet jack on the Mac Pro. It worked great as well.
