ttauri, I just tried it.

With a .wav sample, no crashing, but as usual the loop and start/end times don't reload.

With an .aif sample, (this time around anyway) it did reload with loops intact. Playing notes didn't crash, but intermittantly, (like every fourth or so keystrike) the note would abruptly cut off after about 100 milliseconds.

Depends if anyone's discussing it through a techlink. I'm not... is anyone? Has anyone reported it at all? (Unicornation isn't MOTU, if I may state the obvious.)

On the first page of this thread, you'll see that I and others reported this via techlink a month ago. Note also that MOTU replied and acknowledged that they were aware of the problem... As the weeks pass, my disappointment grows into disgust. :x

My disappointment gave up and went to Hawaii. I think. I haven't gotten any postcards back, though.

That is to say, I've given up. Maybe one day they'll fix this potentially great instrument, but in the meantime, I've switched to Kontakt, which works.

Peece,

Just thought I'd note that I can't save sample start/end times on a PowerMac G5, OSX 10.4.10, ,DP5.12, M52.1

FWIW - Unofficial word from a MOTU person at AES: "a fix for this problem is very close to being released"

Actually, MagicDave told me that so we can call it official. He was very apologetic about it and thanked me/us for our patience.

Shooshie wrote:It really disappoints me to see these bugs. I wish so much for MOTU and for us all that MOTU would re-establish their long time reputation for things that "just work." I got very excited about MachFive2. It looked like an answer to things I'd hoped for. Now, with the problems inherent in the programming, I see that it's not. And that disappoints me beyond what I can or would put into words here. It makes me sad.

Maybe they'll fix it. I hope for that, and forgive me if I sound too dramatic for the situation at hand when I say that there's a lot more riding on this than a piece of software or getting the job done. MOTU, you've got the support and backing of everyone who buys your software. Don't think it's infinite. Don't take it for granted. We're tiring faster each day.

I for one appreciate the rarity and significance of this statement from the 'Meister. :?
Well, maybe they'll hear this: I was just about to plop $200 on the upgrade, but after reading this little thread, I decided maybe it ain't worth it - at least until I know where MOTU is headed with MachFive and DP, and where all that is headed in terms of new versions - if any.

I find myself in a similar position to where I was just before moving to DP - looking at other DAWs to see where I may land next. To echo the Shooshmeister: it makes me sad.

It also makes me mad. I do my part in reporting bugs only to be told by a scripted tech guy "it's not a bug." Yeah, right... I also do my job in my work. If a director or producer wants changes, I don't hide behind my pride or 'stay the course,' I make the friggin' changes and move on.

So come on MOTU, make the friggin' fixes and let's move on. The bitch sessions online here are the symptom. YOUR software is the cause and YOU have the medicine to fix it.

FIX IT! ...or the patient will die. I hate to rip MOTU, but that's better than MOTU RIP. Isn't it?

ISN"T IT???!!!

Actually, it's thumpin' your wallet that gets their attention... just don't keep it in your front pocket or they might get a mixed message.
