Does anyone have any experience with E-Mu's "Old World Instruments" library for Proteus-X and Emulator-X? It has an interesting collection of instruments that are not exclusively Old World, making one wonder at the origin of the name vs. "World Collection Volume 2".
If I go the MacIntel route next year, the E-Mu soft synth is an option. No idea whethe it's as good as their final generation hardware, or even better.

I know the topic is about EI, but as long as someone was talking about RA earlier, I thought I'd at least ask if anyone has heard of Project SAM II True Strike World and FX Percussion? It includes Japanese, Indonesian, African, Middle Eastern instruments, plus bowed instruments, cinematic FX, ensemble hits, etc.
They only have a couple of teaser demos up-- not to be confused with their True Strike I collection, which sounds phenomenal. If TS1 is any indication of quality, TS2 will certainly turn a lot of heads, imho.

But I do suspect that EI is a lot of bang for the buck. I just hope they don't delay the release again...

Well, it's not splashed on the front page, but I was easily able to find this link from the main Ethno page. Hardly shameful I think.porieux wrote:Looks interesting, but iLok makes it a non-option.
Shame on MOTU for not mentioning the iLok requirement in any of the info on their site, that is practically fraud in my opinion.

RA and ethno
I just bought RA on the group buy and it is fantastic! I don't think of these two instruments as the same at all. On the one hand, RA is 14gb of the finest virtual world instruments around. There are no loops at all, really, although there are a few "elements" or indigenous instrument effects that are 'loopish'. The ethno istrument on the other hand is 8gb, 4 of which are devoted to rhythmic loops. And these are much like the RMX, with the ability to bring in MIDI files of "chopped" loops for further editing and easily setting at any tempo etc. Furthermore, they one up RMX by allowing you to bring the actual audio file into a track window to mess around with. To me, these two instruments together would be very complimentary. Wish I could get both! But for now, RA is great.
