OT: Email from MOTU?

Post by bone.china »

A bit OT but, did anybody else receive an email allegedly from MOTU from this senders address: "Announce" <announce_admin@motu.com> ?

The body of the email is:

Digital Performer 5 is now shipping and you are eligible for the
upgrade. Click here for more information:

http://www.motu.com/products/software/dp/features50

(If clicking the above link doesn't take you to the DP5 web page,
copy and paste the link text into your web browser.)

For more information by phone, please call +(617) 576-2760 Monday
thru Friday, 9AM to 6PM (Eastern Standard Time).

If you would NOT like to be emailed about DP upgrades, please click
here:

Sorry if this seems lame but I've never received an email from "Announce" from MOTU before. There was no way to actually tell it was allegedly from MOTU without opening the email, so I'm just wondering... :?

I got this. Perhaps they are beginning a DP e-mail list. I assume that since it lists their actual phone number and links to their website and doesn't appear to be malicious that it is legitimately from MOTU.

Thanks Shooshie, this is exactly the kind of report I was hoping to hear. On my lowly 1 ghz TiBook, VIs are tough in 4.6.1. However, I have learned some things. It seems that the CPU usage rises alot from rapid screen re-draw. Closing down the Mixer helps alot - but I recently discovered that if I click in counter (which stops it), I get almost a 10% reduction in CPU usage!

Shooshie, I recall reading about a DP5 preference that reduces the graphics load. Am I getting this right? If so, did you make any adjustments there?

I'm hoping that DP5 is improved in the area of CPU usage and this report is encouraging. In the meantime, I'm living vicariously through others until my upgrade arrives! Any other experiences with VI performance?

Thanks for your response, enigmatunes. I was indeed worried about the links because on the face of it they do indeed suggest direction to MOTU's website, but the worry was that the links could re-direct somewhere else for some malicious reason and still on the surface of it one would arrive at "MOTU's site". I just didn't know if it were some sort of fishing expedition or something like that. Website forgeries have been know to exist. Just ask Citibank.

Anyway, thanks again.

None that I'm aware of, pasam. But there are some new preference settings in the studio setup with which I'm not yet familiar. They are just set at default settings. Could they have made the difference? I have no idea, but I might play around with them and see what happens. (after writing down the magic defaults, of course ;))

I'm growing more impressed with DP5 all the time. It is definitely more efficient than DP 4.61, and the new features and bug fixes are definitely worth the price of admission.

I have not yet even opened a single new VI or plugin! I've got to explore that soon. If it's this good without all that, then we've just bought ourselves a bargain, folks!

My Dual core 2.3 does not even show a cpu load. Just playback on the same 30 plus track song in 4.6.1 the meter sat at about 40%

rendering is genius...

PS

Choose your tracks before you create your folders. May be obvious to some but I missed it.

My, my Shooshie is a little reved up... Old Guys Rule!

Got my Five tonight.
I got some stuck notes when I stopped MIDI playback with the space bar, but only after I had instantiated one of the new VI's. I restarted (first time after the install (doh!) and it was all good.
My kind of music doesn't use what the FM VI does, but the Polysynth made me feel whole for the 1st time since I sold my Juno-60 so that I could afford a Roland V-Synth! :D

Could one of you fine Unicornites try 'Attach MIDI controller' in the Mixer mini-menu and see if it lets you attach to MUTE BUTTONS.
[PLEEEEASE let this be the one...]

Thanks!

Looks like you can DP 5 your project (yep, I just made "DP 5" a verb) and replace those terribly antiquated MIDI spacer tracks with track folders ;)

If the resolution is 1680x1200 the answer is 2016000.

Now, back to music 8)

Anyone tried any of the visual features yet? i.e. visual clicks, streamers, flutters, punches...... there are some sophisticated click-track and countoff options too.... saw Magic Dave demo these in London

I'm having trouble with MIDI notes sticking after i stop a 4 track sequence (no audio) with the space bar. anyone else? (DP5, USB drive 1.32, MOTU micro express USB interface.) (i think the interface is the culprit. gotta find out how to REALLY wipe it clean, and what to trash in prefs, etc.) Thanks for any help here.

lol!
I'm sorry, it was my own fault.
I think I had some circular MIDI routing going on.
it seems rock solid now.
sorry for the false alarm, dan,
I know how you feel about stuck notes!

Awaiting delivery.

Are we still stuck with SD2 files only? Or can we now use WAV files in DP5?

Also, is there export to BWAV? Or only WAV?

Thanks
Bob
