All good, my issue is resolved. It doesn't give me much confidence in NI.

James is far more eloquent on that subject if he wishes to weigh in.
I got nothing... well, other than to say that I got burned pretty bad with that really bad version of Kontakt. NI actually posted a URL to the previous version for users to reinstall, but *something* about that bad version hosed my system SO BADLY, that I had to wipe my system drive and do a full restore to an earlier macOS and then work my way back to where I was before Kontakt messed me up. Since then, I always run a Time Machine backup so that I have an APFS snapshot of my boot drive to quickly restore from just in case. I just won't blindly trust NI updates anymore. That bad version didn't just affect DP, but all other DAWs installed on my system were messed up and couldn't playback properly. How the heck that made it through NI's beta testing I'll never understand.

Addictive Drums 2.3.7 updated to... what?... 2.3.6??!!

Post by James Steele »

Addictive Drums 2.3.7 updated to... what?... 2.3.6??!!

I'd love to tell you what is updated but doesn't look like XLN is keeping their release notes page updated:
https://www.xlnaudio.com/release_notes? ... tive_drums

Okay that's strange... I had 2.3.7 installed according to PlugInfo and it downgraded me??? Huh? I'm going to pull 2.3.7 off of Time Machine and write to XLN tech support and ask what the heck is up with that?!!!

MORE INFO: I had version 2.3.7 dated March 1, 2024 and XLN Online Installer downgraded it to 2.3.6 dated February 26, 2024!

Yeah... writing to Support now.

Post by James Steele »

Just submitted a note to XLN tech support:
I'd like to know why, just now, XLN Audio Installer told me I had an update and it downgraded my existing Addictive Drums 2.3.7 install (March 1, 2024) to Addictive Drums 2.3.6 (February 26, 2024)?  Was this intentional?  Was there something wrong with 2.3.7, and if so, don't you think users should be notified?  Thanks!
Update: What's very strange is I just now rebooted and ran the XLN Audio Installer and it says everything is up to date. Odd.

Well so far, so good. I went ahead and did a Time Machine backup as I am wont to do these days as I don't fully trust NI yet. Things are working okay here on Sonoma 14.5. I noticed that I had a few Kontakt instruments I made myself that I was prompted to re-save them for faster loading, which I did. That, however, triggered a "One or more Kontakt instances could not be recalled correctly" error when I opened a project in DP that used one. However, that was easily resolved by opening that instance and reloading the instrument.

So seems to be okay here in DP.

For anyone following along... it's very odd. I tried opening a DP project tonight that contained Addictive Drums 2 and got an error message about wrong resources and then a series of more error messages that something was wrong with my Addictive Drums install. (I don't know HOW I managed to have 2.3.7 (?) on my system.) I deleted AD2 plugins from their respective folders and then XLN Online Installer did a repair and now all is working again and it's version 2.3.6. Very, very odd. Oh well.

Well the mystery is cleared up. Got this response today from XLN Audio support:
Thank you for contacting us about this. Our developers had accidentally made a public release of an AD2 version that was for testing a very specific issue. This led to some problems for users with a certain macOS version due to it not being enabled in the backend for that version. So we decided to reverse that release.
Ooopsie! Well, I got my AD2 back to version 2.3.6 and all is good in the Addictive Drums world again. :D

Carbon Copy Cloner updated to Version 7

Post by James Steele »

Carbon Copy Cloner updated to Version 7

I had a license for version 6, so upgrade was $25 for me, but I paid it as it sounded like it had some things I would find useful. Here's a list of what's new:

https://support.bombich.com/hc/en-us/ar ... w-in-CCC-7

One of the things that caught my eye was the ability to conveniently view the snapshot files that are stored on your attached drives. Yes, you can do this from Terminal, but as I recall it's a PITA and I don't even remember how. Seems like this would be useful for me to verify I have a snapshot available to restore from if I'm living dangerously and installing the latest version of Kontakt!

The other thing that's intriguing to me about this, is it will let you easily mark a snapshot file to be permanently retained. It may be one that is rather important as your system may have been at a very significant state at the time and you want to save it. I know that by default it seems that macOS immediately deletes a snapshot file after you restore from it. I'm not sure why that is. I don't know if this would prevent that and if it's advisable, but the feature is there.

Thanks for this, Mike! Celemony isn't great about notifying users so I appreciate it.

FYI, I replaced the link you posted with a generic one and users will need to log in at Celemony site and navigate to udpate. The link you posted appeared to contain your serial number so I replaced it for obvious security reasons. I've done that myself before! Yikes!
