OK... you're a fruit loop, Magilla.
I mean, if you think you can get folks to talk about a particular subject just 'cause you order them to, you're loopy!
Hang on... D'Oh!

Hey MIDI! That’s a perfect video example of the ramping automation issue in DP! Well done!MIDI Life Crisis wrote:And at this point clips hold zero interest for me. We'll see, my pretty, we'll see <mad cackle...>

The biggest advantage of clips right away is creating a backing track to throw ideas at. Without any intention at all of using that backing track.

My intended use too, Michael.
Should be a great time saver in this regard. I'm thinking only of drums / percussion at this point, which I'd programme the MIDI for for SSD5 (for drums only) later on. Hopefully Komplete will take care of percussion (don't have it yet)...

Re: NAMM NEWS - DP 10 - It's Here!
I will use clips (not loops as that is something else in DP) much the same way I have used the session view in ableton. Often it's not about triggering a "loop" as a clip can be any length you want. A 10 minute drone, or 5 minute randomly generated MIDI stream...mistaking clips for "loops" is misinformed at best, and at worst...well I'll save that thought for another time. (loop trashing is so 1997 btw)
Instead of being limited to "tracks" that all must play, one under the other, with a clip/session view, you can break free of the 2d restraints of the vintage DAW, and begin using a DAW as a live performance tool, one that you can improvise with in realtime, or as a module in a larger sound installation for example. Hopefully the clips feature will include or evolve to allow "one-shot" style clips, or clips that play forward and then backwards, things like that.
You can also create more interesting pop and dance songs with it. But seems nobody here makes pop music, in fact some on this forum are openly hostile to the very idea. MOTUnation has a reputation (not a glowing one I'll add), on other boards, outside of this echo chamber. We can curl up and get defensive but that just makes it worse. At least that's what my therapist tells me when I bring up the topic

I'm not sure I have a clear picture of how the clips feature will work. I'll have to wait until I have it in my hands before I pass judgement. For me it could be a powerful addition to an already powerful DAW with uses I couldn't have imagined, or it could be a feature that I'll never use. Time will tell.

When I get defensive there's no curling up involved.OldTimey wrote:...MOTUnation has a reputation (not a glowing one I'll add), on other boards, outside of this echo chamber. We can curl up and get defensive but that just makes it worse...

I would be very interested in possibly using DP10 as a live performance tool and look closely at the clips function once I receive it....
I'm also going to learn all I can about the waveform editor. I hope it gets a little closer to what I had with BIAS Peak

My unashamed intention for DP is to make pop music, Brother OT.OldTimey wrote:You can also create more interesting pop and dance songs with it. But seems nobody here makes pop music, in fact some on this forum are openly hostile to the very idea.
I agree that, AFAICT, this one "feature" alone should facilitate this, especially in this day and age.
My position exactly, Phil. I've never used loops, let alone clips; it'll be a whole new universe for me, mate.Phil O wrote:I'm not sure I have a clear picture of how the clips feature will work. It looks like Clips is largely designed for playing live. It's unclear how useful it will be for composing other than for "inspiration" (per the press release wording). I can't tell if you can record Clip performances...doesn't look like it.funkyfreddy wrote:I would be very interested in possibly using DP10 as a live performance tool and look closely at the clips function once I receive it....

Re replacing Peak, I don't think the new waveform editor will be able to. It looks more like an extension of the current model…which is different than a standalone, separate destructive app. We'll see.

Anyone else notice that OMF and AAF are not mentioned as supported Import and Export formats? I hope that's just an oversight on the web page.

Re: NAMM NEWS - DP 10 - It's Here!
I would seriously be shocked if you couldn't record the 'performance' of the clips. DP is barely getting a separate actual section for Clips to begin with, you can already tell that you must record and play in MIDI into the regular linear arrangement windows, not directly into Clips like Live and Bitwig do. It's trivial for MOTU to program this to be a situation where hitting record simply records all of your clips into the timeline.dix wrote:It looks like Clips is largely designed for playing live. As far as performing, it's looking a lot less capable than Live. In Live every clip has it's own quantize setting so you can have clips that are literally just drum hits if you want, Clips in Live can fire at 1/4 note to 8 measure intervals, not just a global quantize setting. The way Clips in DP works seems more like a way to compose, or quickly throw ideas together. I don't see any indication of a separate clip quantize setting.

I'm wondering if Clips was developed as a (significant) upgrade and update to the Song window. Chunk free so to speak.Michael Canavan wrote:The way Clips in DP works seems more like a way to compose, or quickly throw ideas together.
